Thousands online, looking to see if anybody has had success or a specific one y’all have

Main thing is the kind of fish, I was thinking searing some tuna, but a lot of recipes online use cod or tilapia

This works well and goes with a wide variety of toppings.

I use beer batter fish as well. Any saltwater fish would work fine. Grouper and snapper are my favorite but usually I use speckled trout or anything else I catch.

Ahi tuna tacos are awesome, but I would either fry wontons into shells or use crunchy shells. Cold/rare tuna on something too bready can be off putting IMO.

I usually bake or grill some type of white fish such as haddock, mahi, etc. or salmon. For the sauce, I make a chipotle & lime mayo mix (aioli?). Add some corn and tomatoes.

I sometimes do tuna but I will make a ginger & lime mayo and add fresh mint and basil. Salmon works with this combo too.

i make fried fish tacos using cod. i like cod for that application. if you didnt fry i think it would work well still. the tuna would be a good grilled choice.

Thanks for the suggestions

We’re not going 100% hardcore diet.. but trying to avoid restaurants/fried/processed foods. It’s very hard coming up with new recipes bc literally everything we eat down here is not healthy

Seared ahi tuna tacos are also really good

I second cod, haddock or mahi. I like to do fish tacos with lightly blackened fish and then make a mango salsa to go with it. Simple and fresh.

I prefer white meat.

I use ling cod or sea bass.

If I was in LA I'd be using speckled trout or flounder.

a fish taco with tuna is a good bit different than a fish taco with cod/haddock, or with Tilapia or trout.

with a white fish, i think what's important is the sauce. a good baja sauce is what makes it good. little mayo, sour cream, good bit of lime juice, lots of seasoning (old bay) and some cilantro. Doesn't matter what white fish you use, it'll be good.
We blacken some trout, put a little dry coleslaw and that baja sauce. simple and delicious.

pour a beer in the flour until it has the consistency of pancake batter.

dip your fish of choice in wet beer batter and fry to your liking. season it as you see fit.

soak shredded cabbage in red wine vinegar

mix a mayo/sour cream drizzle 50/50. add lime juice until it can simply drizzle off of a spoon.

tortilla
fish
shredded cabbage
sliced jalepenos
drizzle

best shite in the world.

Cabbage is a good way to get some crunch if you're avoiding frying. If you're looking to go more healthy you can use a plain Greek yogurt base for your sauce. You can sort of use it in place of mayo but it's going to be thicker so you'll prob want to thin it out. Nobody has mentioned catfish, but if you blacken it it does just fine in a fish Taco and it's relatively cheap and easy to find.

I’ve never understood the fish taco thing.

I don’t like fish sandwiches either.

Go ahead and kick my arse, but fish and taco just sounds bad.

Why hasn’t anybody realized the taco and fish reference.

Tacos should be beef or pork. (not even chicken)

Fish should be served as an entree, cooked however you like with whatever toppings you like or none at all.

Downvotes incoming.

This one from an old Weber cookbook is a good start. Simple and everyone loves it. I usually will serve with a Mexican corn side and also mix up a chipotle lime crema.

Look up recipes for Baja fish tacos. That is how I do mine. I don’t have a recipe but when I do I just look in the internet. Dark beer & flour is what I recall. The slaw and crema make it. As far as fish Mahi for fried, red snapper for grilled or blackened.

We’ve really liked this recipe.
I’ve used it with any kind of leftover grilled fish I’ve had. Don’t skip the sauce!
