I need 2 40lb-ish sacks for Sunday. I called Captain Sids and they said to call back Saturday to reserve.

Does that sound right?

Any other recs for live crawfish in the bucktown area? Worried that i will call Saturday and they say they are all out for Sunday.

call Dennis' and see if they are selling live crawfish

4428 Lorino Street / 504-885-2209

FYI - a 40lbs. sack will be small crawfish. You want MED size which would be around 33-35lbs.

market price in NOLA is currently $3.75-$3.99 / lb.

Try Rouses or Winn Dixie.

I bought a sack from Rouses a on Lundi Gras. 34 pound sack and only a handful of dead crawfish.

Call Amys at the Westwego Shrimp Lot. They should be able to hold them for you.

The Crawfish App sent this email a few days ago. Legit? I don’t know.
quote:

As of Monday, 3/10/25, crawfish prices have increased by another $.25 cents per pound. Farmers are reporting a heavy molting period. When crawfish molt, they shed their old exoskeleton to grow a larger one. This process is essential for their growth but takes time, often leading to a temporary drop in the farmer's catch of crawfish. In the short term, this reduced supply can drive prices up. However, the wait pays off—once molting is complete, the catch improves, and the crawfish are bigger and more plentiful! Stay tuned.

last Friday 3/7/25, I bought 9 sacks (300 lbs.) from my goto crawfish farmer. He told me the price had increased $0.25 due to the limited catch during the previous few days. Crawfish activity and production is usually influenced by the weather elements. One day a pond will produce 19 sacks, the next day it could produce 63 sacks.

Makes sense as the traps are baited which draws the crawfish when feeding. Probably go into a sleep state in cold weather.

Get a dip net and find some drainage culverts. You'll have 40 lbs in no time.

4 sacks from Schaefer’s (Bucktown/NOLA) tonight. Some of the best crawfish I’ve had, especially for this early in the season. The claws alone made these worthwhile.
