Wow Scott68, great stash. We seem to have similar tastes in cigars as I've had just about every one of those and loved it. If I were picking cigars to add to your collection, I'd throw in a couple of Don Pepin creations, My Father The Judge and La Aroma de Cuba. Perdomo seems under represented, but that 10th is a good stick.

My only advice would be to swap your top shelf with your third shelf. I'd be pulling way too often out of those opus x's and Padron anniversary. I'd rather the first thing I see to be a EP carillo. LOL.

Speaking of humidors, what are some good suggestions? I have been using one I got off of Amazon for $50 last year, and it sucks at holding humidity. I have 2 boveda 69s in it (50 count capacity), and it still only holds around 60%. Over the weekend I sponged the inside with distilled water, but the damn thing dried up already. Last night I put a ramikin of water in it to try the long seasoning method, so I am waiting to see if that helps. I saw two of my olivas shedding when putting them all into a ziplock while the humi reseasons.

I see other options on amazon and such, but I don't know if I trust them. I am looking for something reliable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I don't need more than a 100 capacity, since I am more of a casual smoker.

Midget Death Squad, are you me?
Exact same scenario with the shitty $50 humidor.
My solution was to go tupperdore. I stole one of my mother in law's tuperware and threw in a 69% boveda. But.. that's too damn humid. I can't seem to find any 62 or 65% locally, so what I do is use my crappy humidor as a dry box. Basically, all the cigars I plan on smoking the next week go out of the tupperdor and into the dry box. That way I have a nice rotation, the gift humidor gets used, and the rest of the cigars are stored properly.

Thompson Cigar

This is a 200 capacity I’ve used for over a year now that I’ve never had any issue with.

That is a really nice set up.I really like the acrylic containers. Where did you get them from? And what are you using as a humidification device?

Also, we smoke a lot of the same cigars!

I separate my Cubans and non-Cubans into different humidors because I prefer Cubans at 65% and NCs at 69%.

This is curiously precise. Why the difference?

How did you season this one, and how often do you need to? Or did it never need seasoning at all? I may give this one a go.

I use Tupperware for my acids that my wife likes, but the superficial side of me really enjoys the display of the humidor when I am going to grab a stick. It just feels... right.

I used a sponge on every bit of exposed wood once a day for about a week before I put in any cigars. I tossed in two Boveda 69’s in addition to using the humidifying bricks it came with. Both Boveda’s at the bottom. Once I got the hygrometer dialed in and pretty steady from 69-72%, I started using just one Boveda at the bottom and the bricks at the top. I’ll season it again once a month or so, but just a light seasoning before I make a large cigar purchase because I’m running low.

Basically just what I've learned from tasting both cigar regions at different humidity levels so I adjusted my storage based on those smoking experiences.

1. Cuban cigars are regularly rolled pretty tight. At higher rh (69-70), the extra moisture swells the tobacco and makes a tight draw even tighter. The lower rh at 65 helps create an easier draw. On top of the draw, I also had more burn issues with Cubans at 69 rh.

2. NCs are where I smoke a lot of maduros. I want to maintain those dark, oily wrappers as best as possible. Drier conditions can cause the oils to evaporate and the cigar loses flavor. The difference between 65 and 69 rh was noticeable to me and 69 rh provided a better experience.

Try Amazon. It's where I buy all my boveda packs

The great thing about airtight tupperdores is the ease and no need for seasoning if you don't put a cedar tray in it. Yeah, you lose the display quality of a wooden humidor, but the practicality of the tupperdore is hard to beat.

Plus, you use less Boveda packs and they last longer.

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. This is a good group, so I appreciate hearing what everyone had to say.

I saw a couple of questions, so I'll try to answer.

1. If I could only choose 1 to smoke what would it be?

Tough, because I just got the Cubans and have only let them rest ... resisted smoking them for now. The Opus X's are on hold just because I like having a stock and I'm looking for the right occasion.

I've really enjoyed the Fuente King-T's (non Rosado, the Rosado's have been a tough draw) and the Tatuaje Bon Chassuers. I think that the Caldwells that I've got are massively underrated, as I've really enjoyed them as well.

But, there seems to be a time and a place where each one seems like the right fit. It mostly depends on what I'm drinking, how much time I have, and who I'm smoking with that makes for the right choice.

2. I keep everything at 69% rh.

3. I had some My Father Le Bijou 1922s (Churchills) this summer. Loved them. Need to re-stock.

4. I got the acrylic cases from Fox Cigar, but they're for sale lots of places, including Amazon. I used to open display all my cigars in cedar trays or in their boxes, but I just found it was too tough to keep my humidor at a consistent rh. I had two "Cigar Oasis Plus" devices in the humidor, but I felt like I was constantly tinkering with them. I also didn't like the propensity for mold either. I didn't like worrying about my collection going bad if I didn't attend to it weekly.

The acrylics are mostly idiot-proof, and that was exactly why I got them. What they lack in looks, they make up for in functionality. I took the tops off for the picture (obviously), but when the tops are on, they still look just fine for showing off what I've got, and that's half of the fun.

There is a gap in the bottom of each one that allows a Boveda to rest on the floor of the box (you can't see it in the pic) while the cigars rest on a perforated tray above the Boveda, and it works great. I find myself swapping out Bovedas every 8-12 weeks or so.

If you have a choice get the Boveda acrylics over the Pixel acrylics. I've got both, and even though they both work equally well, the Bovedas are easier to open. I've had that set up for about a year now and everything has stayed in great shape ... no problems.

Once we get past the holidays we need to setup a TDCigarBoard meetup. I think Scott68 should host

But seriously we should make this happen.
