I went to brunch at the one on.Bluebonnet not long ago. Very expensive for Tex Mex.

I’m not sure, in BR for what you’re paying at some of those complexes it doesn’t really make sense to live there unless you just really want to pay the premium to do it

think the popularity of the perkins bars hurt it. The post college crowd sees no need to go downtown, plus downtown living never really took off.
Definitely. Downtown sucks. Parking is bad, it’s a long way to Uber, not many people going out there. Perkins road is way better

Roux House was my favorite spot down there, Lucy’s also drew a big crowd for a while.
I did like the piano bar at happys the few times I’ve been there

I had a friend working at Roux House so I would go on occasional weekend nights a couple years ago. Was almost always empty

Damn Roux was always pretty packed on saturdays way back when, always had a good band and a solid patio

I do think that ridiculous open container enforcement hurt.
This is downtowns biggest problem right now

Lava Cantina downtown was objectively terrible. I walked right past it on many occasions. Hopefully something better takes over the space.

Man I’ve been going to happys about twice a week for the past 2 years and it’s always a great time. That place gets packed Friday and Saturday nights! Don’t know what some of y’all are talking about. Also, the new Bengal Tap has been getting some good weekday crowds as well as the weekend of course. Patio is always filled. I’d suggest some of y’all give downtown bars more chances. Living downtown (Spanish town really) has been awesome to me the past 2 years.
1913 was definitely a problem with some of the crowds it brought though.

Lava Cantina had mediocre food at Superior prices. It was never going to work downtown unless they had some other draw. They didn't have the room for a stage to turn it into a music venue, so it is no surprise to me that this spot folded. It was just terrible all the way around.

That open container thing is so egregious
This is what is killing downtown, and it was entirely politically motivated. It was an attempt by the mayor to hurt Delgado who was the face of the recall effort against her.

recently
Roux House and Lucy's were both bought by the Lava Cantina people at the same time.
Roux House is getting remodeled and re-branded. It will eventually reopen. The new name is something stupid.

There was about an 8 month stretch about a year ago where there was a very large African-American crowd downtown every night. They would pack two or three bars so badly that the crowd would spill out into the street.
I remember this. At the same time, there were several Greek pub crawl nights happening at the same time. I saw more than a few fights as a result.

So Baton Rouge went all Austin PD on open containers?
All cities should have go cups.
Liquor sales shouldn't be time or day limited.

Good riddance that place was terrible. I've been three times and each time they didnt bring out the sides for half the table. by the time the server brought them out we were already done eating.

quote:No it's not. You can park on the streets for free and there are a half a dozen lots not counting the parking garage.
Parking is bad

it’s a long way to Uber,

Yes, but it’s only enforced on third street.

Nothing to do with Gonzales. Think about people that live past the Siegen exit to Highland Road. That’s more than a 10 minute drive from downtown.
