I like Cajun food alot.. if the contest is between Cajun and Creole, I'd pick Cajun.

except 80% of the restaurants in Lafayette consider fried shrimp as cajun. Im sorry I have never been impressed with Lafayette as a food destination. There is a food culture there but I dont see it translating into the restaurants. The good food is in people's homes. Id rather eat out in BR than Lafayette if given the choice.

I've seen butter to supposedly make the shell softer to peel, but never mustard. What's mustard supposed to do?

This cracks me up...

quote:

Lafayette, not NOLA, Named the "South's Tastiest Town"
quote:

Southern Living has announced the winner of its Tastiest Towns in the South poll that ran earlier this year. The magazine selected 10 finalists based on a number of criteria (which y'all can see in the press release after the jump), with the winner selected by reader votes over a period of about a month. And while New Orleans didn't win, we can't complain with this: Lafayette was named the tastiest town in the South. Go Ragin' Cajuns!

The April issue of Southern Living will have more on the winners over in Acadiana, while that issue also (they tell us) showcases each of the cities' "tastemakers and chefs, recommends the perfect eating day in town, and more." And while New Orleanians might smart a little bit about not winning this thing, let's revisit what Lafayette's Independent weekly wrote back in January: "Lafayette needs this more. New Orleans is known across the globe for its exquisite cuisine. Let's let Lafayette get a little famous for the same thing." Besides, this is yet more evidence of the increased or renewed respect for the awesome Cajun culinary traditions. So congrats are in order to our neighbors in Acadiana. Lafayette is one tasty town, y'all deserve it.

Spent 5 + years in BR.

Taking out LSU, Lafayette >>>>>>> BR

But then again, LSU >>>>>> UL-L

Yeah, its a voting thing. Subjective, but why the hell was Louisville in the running anyway? All I can think is that there was some confusion with people thinking UL = University of Louisville?

There was an article in LA sportsman saying they boil them, put them in a styrofoam ice chest, squeeze some mustard on top then add seasoning and shake and let steam for 20 minutes. Said the mustard is supposed to help the seasoning soak into the crawfish. Pont Breaux people

Spent most of my life in the Lafayette area and have lived in the BR area for 10 years.

BR Restaurants > Lafayettes

Lafayette = hotbed of fried seafood and catfish. Its sad at how rare it is to see any fish other than catfish in Lafayette. The best food in Lafayette is found in gas stations and yes nobody in the area makes a good jambalaya and far too many places incorporate velveeta into their dishes.

Comparing the cities I prefer Lafayette over BR in many ways.. Dining out is not one of them.
