Somebody brought up Gus' so I had to jump in.
Gus is rollin' straight--especially when dipped in Ranch Dressing. (rainch for Bama fans.)
Not mentioned here and dead-on perfect is Ball's in Lake Charles. Do a search and destroy on the Enterprise Blvd hovel (across from the funeral home and by the cop shop. Yeah...)
And raising a candle for Uncle Ben's on Nicholson back in the day. Uncle Ben's Breasts Are Best!

AND can't forget the Pollo Campero on Vets (I think) in NO. What KFC is to this country, Pollo Campero is to Venezuela. The Hispanics will line up around the block when these stores open up. Right tasty! And cheaper than Popeyes.

That's why the best piece of chicken is the Church's wing. They cut their wings such that they contain a big chunk of breast meat - you get a wing and small breast on a wing.

My kids convinced my wife a year ago to make homemade fried chicken like my mother and her mother made. So once a month we have been getting fried chicken from home. I've not had store bought since and as long as she keeps this up I will not buy it. It's a tradeoff we made and I am happy with it.
