Headed to Knoxville next week for a few days, never been. Looking for any interesting places to eat. We'll certainly be around to UT campus but will also be driving all over so any place within 30 minutes of UT is fair game.

Have eaten at JC Holdway a couple of times and thought it was very good. It’s been years though.

Pizza Palace
It’s a drive up pizza place and still old school board to order from and cash only. The spaghetti with homemade meatballs is to die for. The pizza is hand tossed and delicious. If you bringing kids, they have to see this place.

Lonesome Dove
JC Holdway
A Dopo Pizza
Those are kinda the big 3 of downtown Knoxville.
Foothills Milling Co in Maryville is also outstanding, but more of a drive
Littons in Fountain City is also a local tradition

Ye Olde Steakhouse was a cool place when we’d go to the LSU/Tenn football games there…

I’d add Lilou (French), The Kennedy (upscale bar food) and Stella Osteria (Italian) to that list. If you’re out west and want something more casual I was impressed with Sticky Rice (Laotian).
If you want more casual recommendations or know what part of town you’ll be in I can make more suggestions. Knoxville’s food scene is dramatically better than what it was 15 years ago
ETA: if you want a smashburger go to Xul near downtown.

Stock & Barrel. Make sure you get the duck fat fries.

Been a few years since I was there, but Tupelo Honey Cafe was good. The biscuits they brought out were as light as anything I’ve ever had.
