you'd be the same a-hole complaining about the service being slow and the food being cold if it came out later

Because the expiditer at the restaurant didn't tell the cooks to hold the kids meal until the other meals were close to ready. So the kids meal sits in the window and gets piping hot.
Want to avoid ask server to bring kids meal with appetizers.

Most restaurants I've noticed serve their kids meals in a basket so not sure how the plate can be too hot.

Here is an idea, order their food first and let it cool. Kids food is usually hotter because it takes less time to cook. The expediter calls out the food based on cook time. So a typical kids meal is a burger, chicken tenders, shrimp basket, etc. with fries, which typically only takes a few minutes to cook. How long does your well-done steak take?

all the people that don't even have kids responding to the OP like he's out of line are just laughable. you won't understand until you have kids, if ever.

Having children might one day make me irrational, but that doesn't change the fact that I'll then be irrational.

It comes out of the microwave and then goes under the heat lamps until the other entrees are ready. That's why it's hot, or at least why it was hot when I was a waiter forever and a day ago.

Interesting. Our kids' menu items were the same shite we served adults, just in smaller portions, so they didn't take any less time than a regular entree.

I do have a kid and we understand this is the situation so we order his food first and let it cool. There is a reason why kid meals will come out in 5-10 mins but your meal will take 20-30 mins. Kids are irrational, but adults should be able to understand the issue and make adjustments. Sorry if you or the OP haven't figured this out. Also, if the plate is hot because of heat lamp, ever thought of asking for another plate? This is called critical thinking skills....concept lost to some it seems.

Sometimes people bring their kids to slightly more upscale places than the local pizza by the slice joint or greasy burger place.

I have two kids and don't quite understand the OP's issue. My biggest problems in respect of the kids are (i) making sure their food comes out ASAP because kids have little patience; and (ii) dealing with the fact that my kids are picky eaters.
