Hey guys!

I have a more general thread in the travel board, but thought I'd ask here too for restaurants specifically. Anything y'all recommend? We're staying in the Key West historic district and hoping to go places within walking distance. Will consider a cab though if it's worth it!

Latitudes on Sunset Key for an over the top dinner. Try to make a res when the sun sets—makes for breathtaking views when on the pedestrian ferry from the main island to sunset key.

Fernandy’s for a quick and delicious Cuban meal. My only trip to key west I visited this place twice for their Cuban sandwich.

Irish Kevin’s was a good time after dinner. You can catch Kevin doing an open mic, request Galloway girl.

have to goto Blue Heaven.

I would consider going to Latitudes. It's a very short boat ride to a small island but the food is awesome and the sunset, outdoor dining experience at sundown is stupid cool.

7 Fish is very good. I would try to make it to El Siboney as well. Really good cuban.

ETA: Be sure to get some key lime pie from Kermits. He has the best IMHO on the island.

Garbo's Grill, food truck on Caroline Street is well worth going to. Korean bulgogi taco, spicy shrimp and mango shrimp tacos!! Deliciously decadent and full of flavor layers

I just got back on Sunday. We go every year because my GF's family is in Miami

Brunch:

Banana Cafe - excellent crepes and a Lobster Benedict that is out of this world

Blue Heaven - again, great brunch and an excellent Key Lime Pie

Harpoon Harry's - Cash Only. Good food. I had their "Country Po' Boy" which was a country fried steak, 2 eggs, smothered in sausage gravy

Pepe's had the best Key Lime Pie I've had over the 4 years of going down there. It's right next to Harpoon Harrys. Also has a delicious Key Lime Margarita and great food.

Cuban Food

There is only one answer to this IMO. You HAVE TO GO TO Frita's. By Far the best Cuban food I've eaten. This time we ordered 1 cuban sandwich, 1 Arepa, 1 order of the Rice and Black beans with Pork and Chorizo and an order of Yucca Fries

Dinner:

The Thirsty Mermaid is a newer place, it has excellent fresh seafood dishes. We had the Ceviche du Jour (tile fish), Yellowfin Poke, a tenderized and fried Conch dish with artichoke that was excellent.

Pepe's as mentioned before

Drinks:

For "Craft Cocktails" go to The Roost. They have a Moscow Mule on tap that is made with their homemade ginger beer. An Old Fashion that has a touch of something that isn't usually in one (forget what it was) but it makes it phenomenal, cuts the sweetness.

Green Parrot - The best happy hour from 4:00 until the band starts at either 5:30 or 7:00. Very fun place

I forgot about this but we had a great beer and cigar and sat outside on the porch at Cork and Stogie on Duval.

7 fish for dinner and Pepe’s for key lime pie. I’m not a fan of Blue Heaven key lime pie, way too much meringue and overly sweet. Santiago Bodega is also good place to get small plates.

That's actually what I'm most looking forward to! Looks like there's so many great caribbean and cuban options down there.

Does he still perform?

I was on vacation there with my family about 20 years ago, and for whatever reason he called me up to stage to take a 5 second pour (crowd counting) of what was probably Jose Cuervo or some shitty tequila. Doubled it to 10 seconds when he found out I was from Wisconsin

I proceeded to crush the 10 seconds

I actually thought Kevin sold out of it a while back.

Nonrelated...there was one guy who used to fill in for Kevin all the time and was really good. Found out one year when we went back he had committed suicide.

It was Jared Michael Hobgood (video of one of his songs): LINK

If you're single, meeting people and scoring is not difficult because everyone is drunk and real laid back. It's a very heavy gay/lesbian community, so be prepared for that if you're an a-hole who has problems with that sort of thing. That being said most of those places are toward the far end of Duval St. Garden of Eden is a clothing optional bar on the top of The Bull bar...if you go there make sure you keep your phone in your pocket.

The beaches on Key West aren't great but worth checking out. Rent a bike and ride around the island, checking out the different neighborhoods.

I can't recommend this place enough. Incredible flavors. This is their famous pork sandwich and corn.

Bien Caribbean Latino
