Saw it today at Calandro's for $43 a pound, which is by far the highest I've ever seen it. Talked to the butcher and he said even though it's crab season suppliers can't get any Venezualan crab so that's jacking the price up. Pretty crazy!

Got some from Langenstein's last weekend that I think was $39. It's been high all Summer. It's been awfully good lately, though.

Things have really changed. As a youngster 25 years ago, I worked at a crab processing house right on the Chef out there in Venetian Isles. Local houses at that time had enough to supply all of the Louisiana demand. 100% of everything consumed in SE LA was locally caught and processed, and we still had enough surplus that we shipped both live crabs and processed meat out to Maryland, because they didn't have enough coming out of the Chesapeake to meet their own local demand.
The dynamics have really changed if they're relying on Venezuelan crab to supply the demand in Louisiana.

I was just in a seafood market, but they only had regular lump, so I didn't even look at the price. Now I wish I had, just out of curiosity

It’s 30$/lb at costco and that’s crazy

I buy mine at the farmers market from an Asian lady who is married to a crabber. Crab meat is $24 a pound.

I worked for one as a teenager. You'd get paid a dollar a pound. I doing the claw meat and it took a while to fill that cup.

Dang this stinks.
Do they have any idea when the price for this, snow, and king crab may come down some?

I’ve got a feeling nothing is coming down in price as long as the current trends continue.

For Labor Day weekend I’m having blue crab, snow, and king, or stone. I don’t care how much it cost
