The wife an I will be down in NOLA next weekend celebrating our 1 year anniversary. She wants to eat dinner at a John Besh restaurant down there.

Anyone have any suggestions on which one?

Or any other suggestions of some possible other places to eat?

I've been to American Sector and Domenica. Both are fairly casual dining places. I liked the food at American Sector better, but a lot of people rave about Domenica. They both have great happy hours.

There are others on this board who have been to more of his restaurants and can offer better insight.

August is awesome but very dressy and the most expensive. Boule is great for seafood. I was underwhelmed by domenica. Honestly if not August, I would recommend either Stella! (Really dressy and pretty pricey) or ROOT (more casual and amazing food).

Borgne. Look no further. It is my favorite besh restaurant by far.

His place on the north shore is hs best restaurant and his steak house at harrah's is a close second - IMHO

I would also recommend Stella, Sylvain, Revolution and Sobou.

For a special occasion, and if price is no object, August fa sho. The food at Borgne is fine, but the ambiance there isn't close to August.

Agreed. August is about as good as it gets.

I ate at Luke last time I was down there. I had a great meal and got everything half price during happy hour. Get the foie gras. Legit.

I felt August was worth every penny spent, and I dropped close to $400 with tip and a bottle of wine for 2 people the last time I went. Don't get me wrong, the wine alone was $120 for a Radio Couteau Pinot Noir and I tipped right at $100. The service was impeccable without being overly attentive, the food was perfectly timed and prepared, and the staff was very welcoming upon walking in the door. Their goat cheese cheesecake with a Balsamic Caramel is still one of my favorite desserts to date.

August if price isn't a factor. Luke's if it is a factor.

Both are great, but you cannot beat August.

Let's just get one thing straight. Domenica is not a John Besh restaurant. It may be nominally owned by Besh's restaurant group, but it is Alon Shaya's restaurant. I've never once seen Besh in the place.

I have only been to August and Besh Steakhouse in Harrahs. So of the two, I would recommend August by a mile.

Isnt that the same for La Provence as well? Besh worked there back in the day I think and bought a partial ownership once he became more famous and put the Besh Restaurant Group stamp of approval on it...

Not 100%...Octavio Mantilla is a part owner of August, Luke, Besh Steak, and La Provence. We have established that. Like you said, Chef Shaya is the Chef there, just as Mr. Landry is at Borgne, and La Provence was there pre Besh ownership. Just trying to get clarification of the statement you made in regards to Domenica not being a "Besh" Restaurant...
