I liked it but it needed a little salt. For the record, I never put salt on anything and always try to eat things the way they are served, but it def needed seasoning on it. I liked the outside deck area. We sat out there after lunch and had drinks and watched boats pull up to the dock.

I completely agree. I don't get all the love for the thin fried. I find that you can't even taste the fish. Their regular is amazing and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the whole fried fish.

I don't find that the thick is too thick, or fishy or slimy.

A catfish fillet is a catfish fillet no matter where it's cooked. Like I said earlier, I don't expect the average person to understand. I probably enjoy the thin bc I can't taste the catfish

Anyway, to the OP... It's worth it. Go getcha some

You could just say, "bring me out a bunch of fried batter," and you'd get the same amount of fish. Don't get me wrong, I liked Middendorf's when I went. The food was pretty good, and their new patio overlooking the water was very cool on a pretty day. But seriously, I just don't get the love for their thin fried catfish....I mean, there's nothing in it....and their batter isn't really seasoned. It is fried well though.

could not agree more

I liked their food, for what it is (I mean, it's just fried catfish), but the thin cut that everyone we went with goes crazy over was like eating a piece of cardboard fried in catfish grease

of course you realize that "best fish to eat" and "best way to fry fish" are just personal opinions, right? So naturally, there are going to be different answers.

bc thick catfish is gross. Has a slimy texture and fishy taste bc people don't know how to cook it (or take the time to prepare it correctly).. I wouldn't expect the average person to understand this though.

People seriously come into the place I work and order the catfish platters "grilled" (which we don't offer on the menu but will do if they insist).. on the flat grill in the kitchen. It looks disgusting and slimy and just blegh. I don't see how they like that.

If you've never been, go. It's not just about the food, either. Sample a lot of things and make an afternoon of it. Fun daytrip from BR.

middenforf's catfish everytime i have gone just seems to be feeding you crispy batter. Cant even really taste fish. Its different so I dont mind it but its nto my favorite catfish.

If you like great batter and don't care about the taste of the fish then go to Middendorf's. Sometimes the fish is actually PAPER THIN ( one sheet ). On a good day the fish is about 3 or 4 paper pages thick (thin). The last time I went I disected a couple pieces looking for the fish. After finding the paper thin slice I felt so ripped off. I can't see what people like about it other than the batter tastes very good. The paper thin fish with great batter was thought up years ago as a gimmick to stretch fish and the owner makes a hugh profit. If you get catfish at for instance Mike's Catfish in Amite, La., you get several thick large fillets even on a small order. At Middendorf's they pile the thin "BATTER FISH" very high on the plate to make it look like you are getting a lot of fish when actually you are only getting one or two fillets that have been sliced paper thin and dipped in a thick batter. So if you like great tasting batter with a hint of fish, go to Middendorf's.

In fairness I must say that the fried softshell crabs and the stuffed crabs are my favorite of any restaurant.

I agree. I ate there last week for the first time in years and it was damn good.

I love thin fried catfish. Can't stand big hunks of filet.

I have never card for Middendorf's either. The thin catfish sticks to the roof of your mouth like soft bread. But to each his own.
