I was coming to say, 6 of us from here met for some Q at Feges. Everyone got a pound of something to share plus different sides. Hell of a lunch. All meats were above average for sure. Pulled pork, ribs, brisket, pork belly was my winner if I had to pick one.

who's the baw with the USA Rugby shirt?
Feges brisket and pork belly always good. His ribs are hit and miss. He's been doing beef ribs on Fridays. His collard greens and sprouts are my favorite sides.
Patrick Feges is a really nice guy. Met him a couple years ago at Blue Oak of all places.

The plan was to meet at Blood Brothers but they were closed for a private event. We rerouted to Feges. I think we're floating the idea to make it a once a month thing or something close to that. Whoever can show up to wherever we decide on. You're welcome to join

No thanks. Been there, done that, have Rouge’s grope marks to prove it.

Way too much food for any group of people. I feel sorry for you and your glutanous "friends"
Good luck with the angioplasty.

I ate at Killens about 3 weeks ago (for the first time in about 5 years).
Until then LaBBQ was my gold std for brisket. Not anymore. Killens was amazing.

In Fort Worth alone, these guys are putting out serious food:
Heim
Derek Allan's
Panther City
Cowtown Brewing (in the brewery and it's effing good)
Everyone giving us Houston baws grief.
No doubt DFW and Austin presents some stiff competition but I don't think they realize how far the Houston BBQ has progressed the last few years.

Was in the area yesterday and went to the Goldee’s pop up at Zavala’s in Grand Prairie. Dylan Taylor and gang have it figured out. Talked with him for a bit, real nice guy. Hoping to open up in September, doing a pop up once a month in the meantime. Some of the best cue I’ve had in a minute:

Dallas baws just pissed and jealous that Houston has caught up and surpassed them.
Better baseball team.
Better basketball team.
Better breweries.
Better BBQ.
You can understand their frustration.

Don’t think I’ve seen Gatlin mentioned. Legit place off Ella north of 610. I think Pinkertons is the gold standard in HTX for brisket, but Gatlin comes pretty close. Good ribs and spicy sausage too.
My lone fault with a lot of Houston bbq joints is they pay full attention to their meats, and ignore the sides. Blood Brothers is like that. Great brisket and ribs, lousy sides.

I judge a BBQ Joint solely on the meats. If there’s a side or two that’s good, then fine, but when I order my two meat plate...I hardly touch the sides till all the actual BBQ is gone.

I judge it by the air conditioning quality first. Then the Meats.

If we had this thread 5 years ago Gatlins would probably be at the top with Killeens, but both of those have barely been mentioned because of the growth bbq has had in Houston the past few years.
Also saw on Facebook yesterday that someone stole catering trailer. Someone had balls stealing a 20+ foot trailer with a giant Gatlins logo on it

Probably an insurance grab. If bidness don't get better next month the place might accidentally have a fire.

I'm willing to concede 5% to every other factor but it's the meats that determine a BBQ joint's worth.
FTR, the green beans (or whatever they're called) at the Pit Room are amazing. Likewise, the baked beans at Corkscrew.
