Not to be too political, but they seem to have been under a ton of heat lately, and the latest controversy might be really bad. According to Sohla, she was hired as an assistant editor, paid $50k a year, and didn't get paid for her video appearances. Apparently that isn't the case for the white editors Link to screenshot of her Instagram post

Then Adam Rapoport apparently posed in brown face, making fun of Hispanics, back sometime before 2013. Tweet with picture of him.

Eater wrote an article calling out Bon Appetit and Alison Roman (that whole situation is a travesty), that IMO, was completely irrational, but looked to gain some support, complaining about the ethnic influences that their non-ethnic test kitchen chefs use. Eater Article

I love Bon Appetit, and hope they make it through, but I don't see how Rapoport makes it through this. I pray staff doesn't revolt, because they have some talented people working for them. If Sohla and other minorities are making less and not getting paid for their appearances that is BS and I hope they rectify that ASAP.

I dropped my subscription a few years back when they were feeding me their politics almost as often as their recipes.

They'll be fine. Rapo will resign or change to another Conde Nast position and they'll crank up the virtue signaling going forward.

EDIT - A lot has developed in the past hour or two on social media, so yeah I def see Adam having to resign.

That's what I'm scared of. I enjoy that the shows are 99.9% apolitical, minus Amiel's Bernie sticker.

I said the same thing.

He comes off as a bit of a dick in videos, so not entirely surprised to hear almost everyone dislikes him.

She called out Andy, the gay Iranian as being privileged. 2020 is jumping the shark.

Saw a comment on one of the videos that Molly had to do with Adam that said, “They have the dynamic of a recently divorced couple at their kid’s birthday party.”

The pay disparity issue is such a pile of steaming horse droppings. But it’s perfectly clear that Condé Nast is a mess: witness the ex editor memoirs: LINK

I gave up on Bon Appetit as a print pub years ago....back when Saveur was still a quality mag. Never got into the videos, which were more about entertainment than info.

In some places the Edible (regional) publication is full of amazing stuff. I think the local one is defunct. I wish LA Cookin or the other one (LA Kitchen and Culture?) would stop rehashing the same old recipes and subjects.

I like Molly's content, and I - full disclosure - am totally in love with that woman.

But she's freaking psycho. She stated yesterday that she's making zero new content for Bon Appetit until there is proper minority representation with equal pay.

All because a guy put on a necklace, a sports jersey, and a backwards hat and said he was a Puerto Rican 7 years ago.
