Well that's not the reason she made the post.

She, and others, made that statement because their coworker came out publicly and said she was a clear diversity hire and is paid just $50k to do as much work as people in Molly's position. People like Molly (senior editors) are paid for their screentime in addition to their salaries. People like Sohla (associate editors) are only paid their flat salary with no money going to them from the video ad revenue... even though they are given plenty of onscreen jobs and widely considered "test kitchen staff".

Bon Appetit was able to get away with it because they had the employees in different titles, but their roles were very much the same without equal compensation (allegedly). Ex employees who held Sohla's same title Tweeted that they were paid well above $50k in the same role, with less experience.

$50k is a joke for someone who works in Manhattan, in front of a camera, for a globally recognized brand. Especially when that person has a great deal of skill and experience.

I would hope someone's personal Spotify account wouldn't be deleted, since it isn't run through BA or anything, but you can go in and download the playlist now if you have premium.

I go back and forth on Delany. He is the stereotypical millennial with his artsy coffee pics, massive snobbery for everything he's into, flaunting of his obscure music tastes.. But I like a lot of the stuff he does. I think I'm a douche

You can't complain about a company not hiring minorities and then calm it a "diversity hire."

You either like being labeled or you don't.

But 50K for a major publication in NYC is just lunacy. That's what a secretary should make there, not someone on camera. Chick is probably living in a townhouse 2 hrs away in NJ on that money.

There is no fracking such thing as equality of pay. You don't accept the offer if you don't like the compensation package. You negotiate on air money. Or not. Simple as that. If she didn't negotiate a better deal, it is on her. If she doesn't like the pay, she can leave at any time. If she has a large enough following, they would probably increase her pay. Making a stink about other people making more money is BS almost 99% of the time. People need to sack up and ask for their worth. In most cases, every business on the planet will offer as little as possible. If you accept that deal, it is ALL on you. I would bet almost everyone at BA has a different salary.

when hired, if they love your interview, they might be willing to offer more. If you are a risky hire, they are going to offer less. This isn't rocket appliances. And it requires some risky behavior at the start to get what you are worth.
