The lease sign has been up a few weeks, I was hoping it was about leasing only upstairs. Building is huge and presumably has a ton of overhead. Irish House and Charcoals were created with expectation of big crowds and neither worked. While food at Irish House was at least good enough, terrible service plagued both places.
I'm not sure what would work in Irish House space, it's almost too big. Guillermo Peters was first chef to try and that didn't work, and now Murphy. It's huge for one concept and might be better two places inside [upstairs and downstairs]. Is there anyone with two places that would do better consolidating like Phillip Lopez did with Root moving upstairs at Square Root?

My now wife lived in the area and we gave it a shot a few times. Have never experienced such bad service as I did at charcoals. It was just so damn slow and stuff would never show up.
A simple lunch would take 3 hours and be missing stuff.

That would be amazing, but I seriously seriously doubt they would do that.

So far the following restaurants have announced closure in the past few days:
Mat & Naddie's
Primitivo
Salon by Sucre
Irish House
Oxalis
Charcoal's
Mizado announced closure but recanted. Summer is looking brutal for the NOLA restaurant scene.

They aren't closing.
They are taking 10 days off to revamp and are re-opening as Brunch and Happy Hour for the general public and then special events at night.

They are closing for dinner service. Are they going to have brunch every day?

This part is true. He packed up his family and moved back home to Ireland a while back. He was hired as executive chef at some fancy golf resort.

He’s well known stateside from his many TV appearances on The Today Show, E Network and The Food Channel and has won international praise and scooped accolades including ‘Top 4 Farm to Table restaurants’ by Travel and Leisure Magazine for his M Bistro at the Ritz Carlton New Orleans and his Irish House Gastro pub was voted the no. 1 Irish pub in the USA!
E Network?!
Here's another more thorough bio from a few years ago. His new job looks to have stretched some truths (e.g. top 4 Farm-to-Table hotel restaurants --> Top 4 Farm to Table restaurants) but that doesn't take away that he's a great chef and will be missed in New Orleans. LINK

Matt's a good dude. Used to play rugby with NORFC several years ago.

didn't he have a pretty bad health scare?

Yes, when he was at the Ritz he had a life threatening disease, I think it was a blood disorder.
This Carlton place he's at now sure sounds fancy. Sounds like he's found balance for a comfortable life for his family but still able to challenge himself. I'm happy for him.

Cool bar, but this is New Orleans. Who wants to eat Irish food?
Posted on 5/31/17 at 8:38 pm to Fat Harry
Yes. They will do brunch daily.
