I'm assuming the same La Carretta from Baton Rouge? The old BR location was one of my best friends favorites restaurants.

No mentions of the Jacmel Inn? The bar there is outstanding.

Steakhouse>Buddy’s but the crawfish bread and steak tip Tuesday night special is hard to beat at Buddy’s (assuming they still do it).

We'll here's my follow up. Made it to Tommy's, Brady's, and Lee's. Luna Rosa from Tommy's was pretty damn good. I have a new found appreciation for Hammond. How nice it was there actually surprised me. SLU is quite a bit bigger than I thought it was.
Disappointed I never made it to Middendorfs, really wanted to but couldn't squeeze it in.
Spent two days going to other sites, that I wasn't expecting.
Had lunch in Franklinton at a small pizza joint that had a really tasty hamburger poboy.
Overall good experience looks like I may be heading back in Feb. for two more weeks.

I work in hammond but work nights so don't get many options.
The Indian restaurant is very good. Tope la is great. Cate street is hit or miss imo.
Mariners is good when drinking some beer.
The Luna rosa from Tommy's is great.
Steakhouse had a great steak, sides are ok.
Never had buddy's but heard it's good.

University Doughnuts for breakfast. Daily lunch specials also. They have a real good breakfast menu besides doughnuts.

Yes I think that was it. At Tommy's I did get to try the wings and the shrimp scampi. Wings were great. Scampi reminded me of the shrimp from Lunas in Lake Chuck.

Their breakfast must be amazing! I’ve only been through the drive thru for donuts and that place is slammed every time I pass by there in the morning
