Picked up a rouses Diplomatico bottle. Enjoying it, any suggestions on sipping rums sub say $50 ish that can be found easily?

Any other rum tips or knowledge would be cool to hear too. Surprised there’s not more LA rum distillery w the sugar cane history we have.

I've always heard the water in LA isn't great for distilling. But I think it's also because the distilleries don't have the patience or deep enough pockets to age their rums long enough to smooth them out.

River water or like we’ll water? Interesting.

I drink Oxbow rum, which is local. Their barrel aged is solid enough but what I like is the rhum agricole. It's made out of fresh cane juice from Alma plantation (same family owns the rummery) instead of molasses that most rum is made from. It's a different flavor and I quite enjoy it. I put a bit of line and maybe a splash of water or a few ice cubes. Their distillery and bar is right under the new bridge by the 13th gate area. It's probably available in most liquor stores in the area but I've only ever bought it straight from the bar.

That’s what was called Caneland. They do have some good rums and a Mississippi River floated whiskey that’s not bad at all. We’ve enjoyed going for drinks and seeing the distillery. I think they are on their 3rd rebrand in the last 5 years for some reason.

Love Diplimatico. I also enjoy Kirk and Sweeney.

Are you near a Total Wine? Doorly's 12 is damn good for around $30.

Sugarfield’s aged rum is damn good, as is their higher proof bourbon, which is different from the store variant.

They are doing a lot with cane. Recently expanded into wines, ciders and meads but I haven’t been back by there since they opened.

Wildcat Bros' Noire out of Lafayette is the only local rum I find that is worth sipping.

Definitely not river water. But I would assume that distilleries use distilled water only. If they don't then any tap water would likely present impurities and off flavors.

I bet this shite is delicious. My honeymoon was in Jamaica at an all-inclusive and they didn't advertise the stuff but I found out they had Appleton 12 available at all of the bars throughout the resort, so I switched to just sipping on Appleton 12 on rocks with a splash of water the rest of the trip and that was good enough for me

Real McCoy 12 year is very good.
Distilled by Four Square distillery and aged in bourbon barrels. $60.

Are you in BR? If so go by Martins on perkins and try some stuff. Their rum selection is very good.

It's not a high end one like some of the other suggestions, but Bumbu is pretty tasty straight up and won't break the bank.

I even enjoy the Real McCoy 5 year, which cannot be beat for the $25-29 price point. It's my go to and I always have it stocked in my bar.

El Dorado 12 and 15 are other great options.
