So many good options of Freret. My personal favorite is a single no pickle at Company, but that's naming a favorite just to name one. I'd be content eating anywhere on Freret, outside of Dominos. The underrated place is the juice bar, but that's only if the proprietors aren't too high. Gotta catch them on the right days.

High Hat - The burger is good, but not my favorite. Pulled pork or their fried catfish are good go-tos.
Wayfare - Knuckle Sandwhich
Saritas - they fry up some mean plantains.
Freret Poboy - poboys aren't really my thing, so I didn't go there much
Mojo - Never had their sandwiches, but their coffee is solid. Bonus strawberry limeades on those hot days
Midway - wasn't the best pizza, but the pigs in a blanket were very good.
Liberty - makes damn good cheesesteaks. I doubt people's opinions of cheesesteaks when they say Liberty ones aren't good.
Dat Dog - Alilgator sausage with chili and cheese was my go-to.
Mint - I ate a bunch pf pho there. Wasn't the best, but it was close and pretty good.
Origami - decent, middle of the road sushi. Good lunch deals.

Sarita's. Good one. Very underrated restaurant in the city. Solid food for under $12 bucks an entree.

nothing from Midway or MInt, 2 totally underwhelming places, imo.

Burger at High Hat is great and hard to beat

I'd probably go w/ a Margherita pizza and Cherry-pistachio Pane Agrodolce with mascarpone and honey from Ancora.

How times have changed... Dunbars ayce red beans and fried chicken used to be the lick on that side of town. I'm old and in the way now.

My favorite dish at High Hat is their gumbo. The roux is very dark and the flavor profile provides a great level of depth. I think it's one of the better gumbos in the city.

The catfish is excellent, but priced too high for something you could find in many Southern diners. Also, I'm not a fan of "strips"... I prefer true filets.

Had the fried chicken at High Hat one night. Was pretty good. Good homestyle crisp skin.

Dunbar's was great. The grandchild (or nephew?) used to hang around our house over on Laurel St. He was a nice kid. Probably pushing 40 by now.

Arancini from Ancora.
Sure miss Dunbars.....is the new bagel place any good? I'm buying frozen Davidovich outta the Martins freezer case, but I need a new fresh source.
