If you ordered a bacon cobb salad in a restaurant

... and the description said, "House made bacon, spring lettuce mix, tomato, guacamole, egg, and cheese blend, served with Ranch dressing," would you be surprised that a fried chicken breast was part of that salad?
The server seemed surprised that I was surprised, and also that I wouldn't want a fried chicken breast. Since the friend I was having lunch with had ordered the same thing and hers wasn't finished being made yet, she took mine and they just added more bacon to the one I was getting and left off the chicken breast. While I realize that chicken is usually a part of a cobb salad, it wasn't listed with the other ingredients, AND being battered and fried is certainly not the norm.
I guess this could be my review of Avec Bacon Cafe, whose a/c was also not working properly, but it wasn't bad. Very tolerable.

I would find that odd, Darla. I know it usually has avocado, but I've never seen guac as an ingredient. I also thought the salad usually came with Roquefort.

I thought Cobb always had chicken breast?

It does, but not battered and fried. However, the description listed what purported to be all the ingredients in the salad and it was called a "bacon cobb".

I gotta go with the OP on this one. If you list ingredients then that implies you will be getting what was listed. If it just said Cobb Salad then you would either know or ask what was on (in?) it.

If the menu says hamburger followed by lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions, would you think you needed to order the bun and the meat just to be sure?
A Cobb salad has chicken.
A Cobb salad has chicken.

It has bacon too. Not sure why there was a need to specify a bacon Cobb salad.

Anyway, since they listed every other single ingredient, why not list the chicken? I would have been fine (and happy) with a grilled chicken breast, but not a battered and fried one (actually, I would be thrilled to eat a battered and fried chicken breast, but I'm trying not to).

Every cobb salad I have memory of was breaded chicken as well

Nope. I might think the world was a better place.
Kidding, I would know the world was a better place.
Kidding again, yes fried chicken would be odd.
Although looking it up on the interwebs, it seems lots of folks have a fried chicken cobb.

PS - I just noticed that their menu also includes a Bacon Cobb sandwich. They list the damn fried chicken breast on the sandwich ... why not the salad?
PPS - I see that a lot of y'all have seen cobb salads with fried chicken. I honestly have only had a cobb salad twice before. Both had grilled chicken, so I thought that was the norm. BUT, this place specializes in bacon, so that's why I thought the listing of ingredients on the salad was a complete listing. I will know better now.

To be fair, a salad made of guacamole, cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing can easily be more calories than a burger so it’s probaby common to go ahead and fry the chicken too
But for your original question, I’ve noticed it is pretty common lately for menus to name an item and then list all of the other ingredients that aren’t implied in the name .. but not describe anything about the main item. Like, “BRAISED BEEF - slow roasted winter vegetables, Parmesan polenta, microgreens” (no description of the beef itself).

The cobbs I have seen the most is a breaded chicken, but not fried.

I've never had a Cobb salad so I'd be surprised.
I'd also be like

So your friend gladly took that one and they substituted the fried breast with extra bacon for yourself...and you're still complaining. Get over it. Typical woman bitching.

I've never seen a Cobb Salad that didn't have fried chicken in it.
