I ate at Maypop in New Orleans last week and it was the best meal I’ve had all year

Started with the crispy friend oysters in soy aioli and roasted bone marrow. Both were unbelievable. Literally wanted to chew on the bone.
Entree, I got the 48 hour short rib grits and grillades. Also phenomenal. The crisp and tenderness on the rib was elite.
Cocktails were very good, especially the espresso martini to close the night. Also suggest the bread service, fine value for $6 I believe.
10/10 experience.

Restaurants charging separately AT ALL for this is horseshite.
I’m just speaking generally. I’m not singling them out. I love the place too.

Yeah. Restaurants charging people for food is absurd.

I don’t disagree. It was really good, though I didn’t care for the jelly. The side of butter was really good.

Felt like they took the trendy new restaurant playbook and followed it down to the end word for word

I find different customs interesting, yes.

I haven’t been in a while. Last time I went they served me a raw soft shell crab. Pretty fricking gross. The second attempt was cooked but bad. That was grosser.

maypop is one of the elite in New Orleans and I really wish I could eat there more often. And the chef/owner is a really great dude, super nice and treats his people well.

Very good restaurant. Great drink selection.
Their duck curry with roti hammered. Think they took it off menu.

Top 10 restaurant in New orleans imo, as is Costera.

Bread service at an expensive restaurant being an extra charge is kinda shitty.

You are paying for it even if it is free.

Yeah, everyone understands that. You pay for the dishwashing soap to wash the dishes too. You don’t customarily see a separate charge on that when you dine out.
I understand charging extra for “bread service’ could make sense in a world where that is not customarily something provided. That is not the case in American dining for 100 years, though.
It seems an unnecessary change to me.

You’re paying more for it if it’s not.
They don’t lower the price of everything else to adjust for charging for bread. The just charge for bread.
