One of the few successful chain bars. Personally, I love the place. Awesome craft selection, good "bar food" and always a great crowd. I think they could compete very nicely somewhere on st. Charles or Magazine.

It would compete with AP & the Bulldog for sure.

Jesus

I would like to see one there. One of my favorite bars to go to in Houston. Especially for day drinking.

It would turn a profit if located downtown, but the beer geeks would still go to Avenue. I've been to both the Nashville and Houston Flying Saucers and both beer lists were average. A few good ones on the rotating taps, but they've been hit or miss. Very similar to how Bulldog used to be.

Meh. This will surely piss off the FBD crew, but you got the 95% craft beer fans and the 5% snobs who actually think a place with 100 beers on tap has nothing worthy enough for their taste buds.

I'm willing to take back what I said. I just checked out Houston's new arrivals and it is pretty good. When I was there back in May there were only a handful of beers that I really wanted. The current Nashville list looks about like Bulldog. When I was there back at Christmas I settled for a Guinness/cider mix. There was nothing on tap I hadn't had a dozen times or had no interest in having.

ETA: I will give FS the edge on waitresses. They were good looking before I started drinking, then they got even better looking as the night went on.

I can't agree with that. Polly works her arse off to get beers that most people can't/won't get. They keep their lines clean and do a good job of rotating good beer in. I don't care how many taps you claim to have, it is all about quality and knowledge of your bar staff when it comes to being a great beer bar.

The one in downtown Houston has a grimey/Applebee's feel to it (I'm sorry, I know its a chain) and the food is fricking awful. I get what Bottomland is saying about the selection, I used to go to the dt Houston one probably 3 times a week. I think it would kill it in the FQ, do okay in the WHD, and probably just meh Uptown. Not sure about the other ones but the one on Main in Houston is a pretty large place. Someone should buy the cesspool that is JAX and open one there.

How many places do you go that have better beer selections than the Bulldog or FS?

In Nashville I'd take 12 South Taproom over FS. They have less beers, but they rotate them pretty often.

In Houston I'd take Hay Merchant over FS.

If a FS opened in New Orleans, I'd take Avenue over it every time.

Yeah exactly, that's the separating factor, the FS in dt Houston was bad about rotation. Yeah, 100 beers to choose from is fantastic relative to the 10 I have to choose from at Henry's, but when its been the same 95ish beers for the last 5 months practically, it gets old fast. It would do fine as a business enterprise and I'd certainly welcome its addition to the area though if they ever decided to put one here.
