This. Who is in such a rush that they need a more efficient method of eating crawfish?

Nobody ever said anything about being in a rush... If i'm given chopsticks to eat a bowl of soup, you bet your arse I'm either going to ask for a spoon or pick up the whole bowl and slurp.

And I'm not claiming I invented this method by any means. I know others know about it, but it's just been my experience that most people I see eating crawfish don't.

quote:

Your thumb should be under the tail and you should apply pressure to lift the first scale above the level of the body shell. At that point you push the tail in and that breaks the shell past the second scale usually. You can just pull straight out and the tail is ready to eat out of the shell since the first two scales stay on the body of the crawfish. It's crazy fast and super easy.

I meant to say thumb under the tail. And actually, now that I think about it, I basically do the same thing and lift the tail up before pushing.

You can eat extremely fast on that method but the 2 scales left on create some sort of vacuum that doesn't allow me to suck the head efficiently. So I just pull, suck, then pinch with a little force.

This is true but it's the price you pay.

1) Twist off tail with thumb and forefinger.
2) Suck the head.
3) Place head in orderly row facing toward me.
4) Bring tail to mouth, break first scale thing with teeth, eat meat.
4) Place empty tail in pile to right of wall of heads.

This green arrow.

If they are cooked properly and it's not arse late in the season, you should be able to put the meat of the tail in your teeth, bite down just a tad and pinch the tip of the tail and roll your finger and your thumb a bit to push the meat out, while pulling gently with your teeth.

No need to loosen, remove or screw with the first scale or two. Just break it, suck head, hold tail meat in teeth, pinch tail, pull with teeth, done.

IF COOKED RIGHT

just break the shell 1 or 2 scales down so there's enough meat exposed to get a grip with your teeth.

suck the head
squeeze tail while pulling meat into your mouth
done

if you get into a rhythm you can do this in 1-3 seconds and knock out a ton of 'fish

if they're not cooked right..then nothing is going to help. you're just going to have to deal with fingers that feel like you've been stirring a box of needles after a couple hours

My brother and I both do this, but I never see other people doing it.

But I do live in Houston, so my only crawfish boils are typically with the same people. And most of them are from Texas.

The best way is to stand next to the one that loves the corn, potatoes, mushrooms and the rest of the filler. That way I get many more crawfish. I'll get corn and potatoes anytime.
