This remedy I have will work for fish smell as well as onions and pretty much anything else, use TOOTHPASTE!! YES, a small pea size amount, lightly wet, rub all over hands like you normally wash your hands with soap, rinse well, and all good! Trust me- you will thank me later-use this method for anything that is stinky!!

It is a very good thing you didn't post this on the OT.

Lemon juice. I think the citric acid gets the capsaicin off.

Handling fresh Jalapenos and not washing them off well enough, then taking out your contacts = Epic Fail.
I know from experience.

For next time, this is the answer.
I buy the mega boxes at Sam's. I use them all the time to fool with raw meats, seafood and peppers etc... They're cheap and convenient.
I use them when I eat boiled crawfish because of the contact lens experience. People made fun of me, at first. Now, I have to bring a whole box with me because when people see the gloves, they want a pair.

Wear surgical gloves next time you mess with jalapenos or any other pepper like that.

This has happened to me at least 4 times. But I've never experienced burning in my fingers due to chopping jalapenos.

My fiance did this last year, and we tried every remedy in the book. Then a doc at work told her that it's a chemical burn and though some remedies might ease the burn, only time would cure it. She slept with her hands in a bowl of milk and ice.

Same here! Cuts down on the # of times you have to wash your hands if you are handling chicken, fish, veggies, etc....

use gloves??
That's just stupid unless you have some sort of allergy to peppers. I could chop 20 fresh jalapenos from my garden right now and squeeze them between my fingers for 2 minutes and I would not have any heat coming into my fingers. But I wouldn't be able to wash it out enough to flip my contact lenses in for two days.
