How many repeated visits should it take a bar tender to remember you?

I am up to about 6 visits at the same place with the same bar tender.

Can't remember me. However, I have had different facial hair styles about half the time.

Conversely, a bar tender at another place recognized me after just two visits.

I expect deference and adulation no later than the third visit.

you have to have a memorable face and personality and not be a weirdo stuck to his phone

Interesting topic as I've just started bartending on a part time basis. We require a credit card to open a tab. One of my goals is to remember people's names when they get another drink so I don't have to keep asking for their name. I'm going to read a memory book as there are tricks to help with this.
It depends on a lot of factors: How often the bartender works, how many customers he/she serves in a night, if you merely say your name or hold a few conversations, etc.

They hate making apple martinis and probably hoping you go elsewhere

Cool!

I can remember a class full of 25 students on the first day if they don't move the next meeting. Haha.

I don't care if a bartender remembers me or not. My ego isn't that fragile.

Neither mine. It is just a curiosity.

It sort of makes it a game.

It is all proportion to the tip. Mine may beg off somewhat on the first visit but on the second they know who I am. And if they don't I go find one who does.

Must be a bitch to never have your expectations met.

I agree.

But you would think it is beneficial to the bar tender and to the establishment to start that off on the right track.

The guy introduced himself to me on the prior visit.

one time I gave a tip of 20 bucks in a tip jar and it looked like the bartender didn't acknowledge that I tipped…just looked down the other way…so I grabbed it back and held it for the next round. got mean mugged by the guy when i tried to buy another drink. we had words.

Start a tab but tip $20 in cash on the first drink and you'll be remembered the rest of the night. Do it often enough and they'll remember your name.

Edit: only in a crowded bar would I do this.
