How is the Baton Rouge Mexican (Tex-Mex) scene so bad? A sensationalized look @ BR Texmex.

I'm looking for a Mexican restaurant in Be that creates their own takes on dishes. The place on Siegen has different dishes, but I think they lunch only. I'm tired of the ??. You are right they are like Chinese restaurants.

I compared it to the influx of takeout chinese you see across the country. Its almost like they all bought the template for a tex mex restaurant and they just follow it down the page to a T.

Casa Maria, La Carretta, etc and all the ones like it are the same slop plopped down on the plates in a shitty decor modeled after what people in the 80s thought a Mexican restaurant should look like.

At least a place like Superior is offering something different like a hatch menu right now, a lent menu, etc. They also sneakily have a crazy bourbon selection. They also have their place looking like a nice restaurant (Highland).

I always love when we have a thread asking where to go for Mexican when they have family or friends in town and we have the same people giving the same terrible responses like La Morenita, la tiendita, and whatever else is like that. Sorry but in what world would I want to take my family to a shite area of town to eat at a mexican grocery store where we have to point at food behind a counter because no one speaks english while people shop for groceries around us?

thats the thing though. Other city's have this same thing that is a better product than what BR has, and for cheaper. Shreveport's Trejos, while cheap texmex, is a better product than casa, palmas, etc. IMO Carretta strives to be better but im its just not my flavor, hence why i dont talk down about them.

you won’t find me defending BR dining options...shite I live in Hammond and it has better choices. I’ve never been to la carretta in BR but the one in Hammond is excellent and a far cry from the cheese and bean places usually mentioned

It has fresh ingredients and interesting dishes and hardly any of them come plopped with rice/cheese/beans

Baton Rouge has a Chili’s. Chili’s IS tex-mex

Superior and Tio Javys have tex mex plates that are just as good as 95% of these small town places you keep ranting about

Tio Javis is crap. I went a few weeks ago, for the first time since rebranding and this food was similar to what it used to be but was cheaper quality and presentation. Could it have been an off night? sure. But even the green and red salsa was a struggle to be what it was prior to Ninfas downfall. I was a regular at Ninfas on Tuesdays and Thursdays nights.
