How does Rouses fresh made sausages stack up to other fresh sausages in your opinion?

The Noni’s pepper jelly sausage is elite IMHO. Whenever they have it in stock, I pick up some to freeze if I don’t plan on grilling that day. We also like the jalapeño and chedder flavor. I grilled the crawfish boil flavored sausages a few weeks back and people loved them even though I wasn’t as big of a fan.

Overall, I’ve been pleased with their selection, especially the pepper jelly flavor

In my opinion, everything Rouse’s puts their name on is good. It may not be the best in every category, but it’s been solid…

I like em.

I also love Saias Hot Sausage, I consider it the Goat of Hot Sausage.

But Rouses is very good.

Best I can get here in South Alabama without driving an hour away. Green onion and Cajun are great in gumbo.

I would rate them as good. Not great, but good.

What I witnessed once was that the rouses guy that made the sausage did what he wanted inside the rouses guidelines. I went to high school with the guy and this was 25 years after HS. He kids did what he wanted meaning each rouses may have been a bit different

Maybe I will give it another try.. In the past I thought it sucked.. Why waste your time if you are going to make shitty sausage?

Italian sausage OK but not as good as Terranova or Rotolo and Martin. Better than other grocery store brands.

Not sure where you are located but Dorignac's has decent (better than Rouse's) Italian sausage.. It's not cheap but has a solid Anise flavor... Terranova is/was the tops.. Is anyone making their recipe?

The Cajun sausage is waaay too salty. It’s not something that I would sear, smother, and make a gravy with. It’s good to use as a stuffing or an alternative to breakfast sausage. Whenever I use it, I am taking it our if the casing.

Westbank is Rotolo and Martin. Eastbank Terranova. No knock on Dorignac.

Terranovas opened up a butcher shop and carry a few specialty items as well in same location. You can still buy their sausage, stuffed pork chops, etc

I will check out R and M when I am on the Westbank.. Looks like a little step back in time.. That's a positive comment.. Is Terranova's still open? I thought they closed.. I looked on the internet.. but you can never trust that a website has been updated...

Those "fresh made" sausages are the same that were available at Winn Dixie at the same time. Years ago. In fact, Winn Dixie had those long before Rouses started selling thm too.

And stuff like the potato salad they have in their clear plastic containers come from a big tub of Reyser's brand potato salad.

Same. My first impression when they opened near me was not good. If a sausage has too much gristle and UCO's (unidentified crunchy objects), I won't be a customer. Rouse's sausage didn't pass the UCO test, I'll buy a few links and give it another try.

That’s how I felt about the crawfish boil flavored sausage. It was too salty for my taste. But like I said, other people loved it

One of my buddies worked in the meat dept for Rouses, probably 30 years ago. He told me at the time each store made thier own sausage but they followed a recipe and used a seasoning pack. I also had a helper that worked at Rouses, he told me he got fired from Rouses for "making his own recipe".

Think Nunu's fresh sausages are much better than Rouse's, great selection imo
