Ditto. I can take my kids there, because they are fans. It's not to be confused with gourmet Mexican, but I can feed the family and grab a beer for about $25.

Zippys is decent but my last resort for that type of food. It just feels like a bar scene there with the same people every time I've been.

My friend got fired from Zippy's for smoking a joint in the kitchen.

I have boycotted it since.

It's a decent place. Cold beer, good food, cheap drinks.

Considering you can see the full kitchen when placing your order that's probably for the best.

I'm pretty sure most of the regulars live in that area. That's actually a positive imo.

Not fratty at all. One reason I love living in the garden district is that nothing is fratty.

I'd drive over this afternoon just for a large Redneck if the BR traffic wasn't so god awful. I've been pondering a redneck in my mouth all damn day.

Comparing Serranos to any thing else is just F'ing insane. The only thing to get from the kitchen was pico and the only drink was a margarita.

I think Zippy's and Ivar's are in a constant state of competition to see who can go the longest without cleaning their beer taps.

I don't mind it. I don't go there if I'm craving Mexican, but I go if I want a cheap lunch. I like the patio on a nice day.. and I've been there to drink before and it wasn't bad.

I'm not sure it is being "avoided"...at least it didn't seem that way when I was living in BR. I know I went there regularly for the nachos.
