I'm fine with boiled crawfish about 3 times per year. It's great that often, but I get over it quickly. Crabs and shrimp are clearly better.

Amen. I was brought there by a Lafayette native and they acted like my life would be changed forever once I ate there. It’s...ok. Just a typical diner burger.

You have to be raised on Judice Inn, or eat there at least 10 times before you get the mystique. Yeah, they're just a flat iron diner burger. But after a while... when you want one, its the only thing that will do.

Ah, for Mobile, AL......
The Mardi Gras is over rated.
Wintzells is terrible, Fairhope and serda brewerIes suck
Osmans is overrated

Callaghan’s, dew drop inn, and via Emilia are great.

For LC:

Darrell's sucks
Luna's is bland and uninspired
Steamboat Bill's is overpriced tourist garbage
The Villa was 100x better before they merged with the Harlequin
Pujo Street Cafe sucks
9 out of 10 meals I make at home are better than anything at 1910.
Victoria's Taqueria >>>>> Torchy's Tacos

The one right off 10 is ridiculously convenient though.

Plenty of cajun restaurants either directly off I-10 or only a few minutes off of I-10

I know but it’s fine for a quick fried shrimp dinner.

There’s just something about it I crave and no place in BR does a burger like it. I think it’s the seasoning and the way they do the onions.

Judice Inn is a great cheap burger.

I also enjoy Darrell’s in LC. It’s nothing complicated, just really tasty, especially the shrimp.

Lafayette:
Randols, La Fonda, Alesi's, Riverside and Don's Seafood are all relics from a bygone era. They have not kept up with food trends and will die.

Judice Inn is what it is. It has its place as a Lafayette institution. The burger isn't special, but it's good. It's a tradition more than anything.

Fezzo's food quality is B-rated at best. Their ribeyes are the same price as Ruth's Chris and 1/4 the size and one tenth the quality.

Blanchard's has the best BBQ in the state.

Billy's boudin is NOT overated. Don's is.

Specialty meats(like another poster said) are just bad cuts of meat dusted with salt, cayenne pepper, white and black pepper, garlic and onion powder. Some have sugar and MSG, some don't. They are a waste of money and don't taste good.

Chris's Po-Boys has the best chicken and sausage gumbo in town. (For a lunch spot)

Chris's Special > Old Tyme Special
Old Tyme Shrimp Poboy > all
Pop's has the best specialty poboys.
Uncle T's has the best Alligator poboy. (Swamp Thing)

Johnson's Boucaniere's Country Style Ribs are the best single BBQ item in Lafayette. They need an air-conditioned dining area though.

Charlie G's is the most consistent fine dining restaurant in town. Sure it's crowded and loud most of the time. But the drinks are always good and on time, and the meal is always cooked perfectly. Other restaurants will have better food and atmosphere. But I can bank on Charlie G's reliability.

The Outback is well run and has consistant food. It is what it is. It's the best of the Chili's level chains.

Dwight's BBQ plate lunch is extremely overrated.

In a pinch, the plate lunches at NuNu's are good.

T-coons is bad for anything but breakfast. Too much salt and butter on everything.

The Coffee Depot in Scott has the best breakfast.

Joey's is underrated.

Cracklins are ridiculously overpriced. I won't buy it out of general principle.

Boiled Crawfish is ridiculously overpriced. I won't buy it out of GP either.

After spending a bit of time in Shreveport and other areas in the north of the state, I have these opinions:
Nobody in town does fried Catfish, or fried chicken as well as our redneck cousins.
Nobody does butterbeans or collard greens like our redneck cousins.
Nobody in town can make a decent chicken fried steak, or white gravy.

I'm not saying rednecks are superior, they can't boil anything worth a shite, or cook anything out the gulf worth a damn either. Also, they can't make a decent rice and gravy to save their lives. Cornstarch? Put that shite away.

I think I'm done.

DC area:

- most "Maryland" blue crabs are from Louisiana
- Old Bay sucks compared to Tony's
- the DC restaurant scene is awesome and getting better every day

In BR:

Stockyard Cafe has the best Soul Food and Fried Chicken.

Mansur's understands what "Fine Dining" is and never disappoints.

Rice & Gravy is a daily food group.

Chinese food tastes the same at most places here.

BR will never make Po-boys like New Orleans does.

Cannatella Grocery has the best Muffaletta in town.

Drusilla Seafood may be the best in town for fresh fish dishes.

Most restaurants are too noisy and over illuminated.

Beef Ribs at TJ Ribs are way better than their Baby Backs.

Hot take about cuisine local to your area

(South Puget Sound, WA)

Despite being the shellfish capital of the USA, our local seafood restaurants are pathetic, especially now that Xinh Dwelley retired and closed her famous restaurant.

Boiled hierarchy is Crab > Crawfish > Shrimp

My hot take is that steamed seafood is much better than boiled.

Good post, Bitbuster. I would disagree about Dwight's BBQ, and add that Meches donuts are possibly the most overrated food item in Acadiana.

The best grilled oysters I've ever had were at Friday Harbor in the Puget Sound area. I'm surprised you're saying that.

You were in the north sound my friend. Crazy awesome restaurants up there. Check out Willows Inn on Lummi Island on your next visit.

My gripe is the far south sound area (Olympia), which is sad because of the local shellfish bounty.
