I'd try some maltodextrine. I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's hardly fermentable.

I'm building a mash tun. Would the high temp silicone tubing I will use to drain it into the kettle be ok to use to connect the false bottom to the drain valve?

I don't use any clamps. My false bottom and valve were bought at different times. My valve is 1/2 and my false bottom is 3/8. I use a 3/8 hose that fits rather tightly on the valve and is snug on the 3/8 false bottom connection. When I say "rather tightly," I mean it's on there for good. I'd have to cut it off.

Need? Probably not. But at roughly 40¢ a clamp, the peace of mind that my mash paddle won't accidentally disconnect it is well worth it.

There's nothing better as far as I'm concerned than that high temp silicone tubing.

I went ahead and ordered 10' of silicone tubing. just need to pick up some hose clamps and some stainless fender washers and I'm all set.
as of now I am $134.48 into this. More than I thought I'd spend, but still less than if I had just ordered one already built. This price includes about 9.5' of tubing not directly needed for the build, but doesn't include another $5 worth of supplies needed.

Damn, page 6. Clearly someone has thought about brewing over the weekend to want to talk about it on TD. The Irish ale yeast finally took off after 5 days of nothing, so we shall see what type of off favors come out of the lag time.
No brewing for me today or next weekend. Beer is already to go for Saturday. Haven't tasted it yet though, plan on doing that thus afternoon.

Haven't really been in the mood to brew lately. I have a hoppy wheat that's just been sitting in the fermentor for about 5 weeks now. Been to lazy to bottle.

Not a hoppy wheat anymore.
Might have to brew this week sometime for a crawfish boil in April.
Need to dry hop and grapefruit our beer for Zapps this week.
