Just got back. La Barbecue is a great alternative to Franklin, no line, and free beer.
All of Rainey street bars were great. Black Heart and Bar 96.
Casino El Camino had a great burger and verde chili fries
La Condesa was impecable new school mexican fare

If you haven't been to one find a torchy's tacos. Get the trailer park extra trashy.

If you do happen to miss La Barbecue, you can walk across the street and get a lobster roll at the Dock and Roll trailer.

My favorites from my trip were...
Uchiko (go for happy hour)
Barley Swine (go for dinner after Uchiko happy hour)
Fonda San Miguel for brunch (amazing!)
John Mueller BBQ
Wanted to try, but didn't get a chance:
East Side King Food Trailer
Favorite bar:
East Side Show Room (by FAR)

you've got to check out the Rainey Street nightlife. Also, be sure to go take in the sights at Barton Springs

Sucks that you missed East Side King...that's some of the best food I've had ANYWHERE, trailer or otherwise. All of the locations have a different menu. The one outside Liberty Bar is my favorite because they serve chicken buns, but I had kimchee collard greens at the Grackle location so it's a close second. Paul Qui is a genius.
