Wow, this might be my favorite fish. I've never seen it on a menu before, but it was a special tonight at Diamond Grill. My wife ordered it, which really surprised me. Wish I had. It's now on my list with ling as an order no matter what if I see it offered.

Great eating and even more fun to catch.

They have it at charlie Gs in Lafayette if you're ever on this end

Not always but ask for it even if it's not a special

this is why you NEVER pass up floating debris or crab pot buoys when fishing offshore

Plenty of lemon fish in the debris as well.

I’ve had tripletail over grits with a lemon brown butter sauce and man that was good.

Hate to say but every time someone tried to sell me triple tail in the restaurant it wasn’t triple tail. They might call it that but that’s not what it is. I have seen Swai and other asian fish sold as many other things.

When you see fresh grouper on a menu and it’s not 30 bucks you aren’t getting fresh grouper. And triple tail is harder to find than grouper at least here in Texas. I never heard anyone say man we just killed the triple tail today. I hear of someone catching them occasionally.

Fresh real triple tail is awesome though.

Have you ever been to yardarm in Corpus? They claimed to have it one night when I went but I was hesitant because of my fish allergies.

Tripletail, lemon fish, and pompano are probably my three favorite fish. Not sure which one I would rather have honestly.

There was a fish purveyor that was selling frozen triple tail and it wasn’t. Would likely be the stuff they were trying to sell me. I don’t lie about what I am selling. I have some flounder I get from Alaska that is frozen 4 oz 5 oz filets and is very clean. By catch of samon fishing. I look for it specifically. I use it for my southern fried fish and I cut it into thin strips. Won’t sell anything from Asia. Our fresh fish is black drum that is abundant locally. We clean it well and is solid. Cut all the red off the filet. Cleanest drum you would ever eat in a restaurant. I love good fried catfish. I hate asking is this real American catfish? Oh yes. Then they send me Swai. Totally not the way to get on my good side.

I agree. Tripletail is one of my favorite fish. Right up there with Cobia, Pompano, Speckled trout, Snapper and Sheapshead. I do miss lake fish in the North too. Perch, Crappies, Walleyes, Sunfish, Bass...yum. Smelting off the Lake Michigan piers was fun in the wee hours of the morning. I love those things beer battered.

My least favorites are gonna be swordfish, amberjack and wahoo.

I know the manager. He would not do that. Besides, there would be zero reason to call a special triple tail in Alexandria. If they ere going to lie, there's other names that would work better.

By Southern you mean Ketchikan I’m guessing.

You can ask specifically for US farm raised catfish and I don’t know why a purveyor wouldn’t be able to supply you as it is readily available all across the country. And while it’s not “wild caught” which very few do anymore it is a very good, clean alternative. Over the years they have gotten the feed correct and also to float so the catfish now are top feeders rather than bottom feeders thus making them taste better. I love a whole fried catfish so I will buy the 5 ounce and fry.

I applaud the use of black drum. I catch and eat them as well. Great fish. I’ll even clean a sheepshead and cook them as they eat good too.

Those are definitely the ones I give away

Sheepshead is great but a pain to clean. I always get it when on special at Ruffinos

You give away Swordfish and Wahoo?

Triple Tail is off the chain (Say it in Guy Fieri voice). I would never buy it frozen. The meat is too perfect to ever hit the freezer.

That stuff won't be good anymore. You can send it to me and I will dispose of it for you. :)
