Maybe this should go in the travel thread? Not sure…

We will be in the Gulf Shores area this summer staying at a cabin on the beach. We were wondering if there is anywhere nearby that you can pick up a sushi tray from. For reference, if you are from Baton Rouge you can get a really decent sushi tray from Alexander’s Market. Yes, it is from a grocery store but it’s quite good considering. It would make for an easy dinner one night if we could go pick up a tray or two. Anyone familiar with the area and the options? Probably wouldn’t order from a sushi restaurant as that would be $$$ but if there is a nice grocery store with their own sushi chef, that may work. Any recommendations welcomed. We can travel to nearby areas.

Thanks. I forget about Publix because we don’t have them here. Their website seems to show they have something similar to Alexander’s but not as many pieces. I will give a call soon and see what they can do. I don’t trust Rouses with their food handling.

You're gonna pay more for less there because you're in a tourist area vs BR.

Get the steamed, medium sized, and seasoned shrimp from Blalocks and bring those to the cabin.

There’s a Rouses at W Ft Morgan road, I’m sure they’ll have some sushi.

For a grocery store sushi platter Publix is a good option, if you go in store they have personal size trays only however on the website you can order a larger tray.

This. When you walk in, to the left, is a station and usually someone behind it making the sushi.

What makes Alexander’s and Publix so different?

A lot of those grocery store servings are not really much cheaper than a restaurant. This is a great idea though as a side hustle, someone could throw a bunch of trays together during lunch and deliver them for dinner.

I love good sushi but not grocery store sushi so much. I would drive to Joe Patti’s in Pensacola buy some Royal Reds and get them to steam them for you. Some melted butter and you’re in for a real treat. They will prepare to whatever level of spice you prefer. I get spicy.

Not many options for Sushi is this area. People have stated the obvious for tray to go options. Publix looks to have a better selection than Rouses but Rouses is a bit cheaper. I’ve eaten from both and will say it doesn’t hold up well. Mikato’s has a large selection and is good quality but will be more expensive. It’s in the shopping Center between Target and Publix. Next to the Yard ice cream shop.
