Would you have tried it without the gift card?
I havent tried their teriyaki but their sushi keeps me going back.
I know I discovered some appetizers there because I had a coupon. Now when I go I always order that appetizer. Without the coupon I would have never ordered it and would probably forgo an appetizer. Paradise Shrimp it was called (not on menu)

This is a huge reason for the coupons.
There are a lot of places I may want to try but Im hesitant because I dont feel like wasting money on bad food.
If their food is good though then they earn a new patron. If its bad oh well.. At least I didnt pay full price

I've used 3 total I believe, and everytime the waiter runs my card and comes back with the receipt, they always put the original receipt on top, and circle the original total several times.
Like I'm too fricking stupid to realize that my meal didn't cost just $10.
I'm sure they've gotten screwed on the tip before, but when they do this it just pisses me off and I'm tempted to tip on the smaller amount, though I haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet.

NO kidding. ANd I don't look negatively at them at all. They've all thrived without doing these promos, and will continue to do so most likely.
It's definitely caused me to get out of my comfort zone at times. I like to eat out A LOT, so about every 4 or 5 of these I use it's like a free nice meal out.
That works for me.
Little Village still does these deals fairly often. But it actually worked against them for me. I got one of these the third time I dined with them as I was getting it as an "I'll give them one more chance" kind of opportunity. And they lost...

Thats where my rule of 15% comes from.. You gave good service and just ruined it by making an assumption that I was a cheap arse. Well guess what.. I just became one just for you...
Now that 15% may look like I tipped 20% on the lower amount in some cases depending on the amount of the coupon but in reality I tipped on the whole amount but docked the server for being rude.

What the coupon does for me is allows me to explore the menu more for the places I already like.
If I like a dish at a place I will often order it again when I return. If I have a coupon Im more likely to explore the menu.

I used to go to Hunan's Kamado's upstairs in the 1990s, when Oy of Sushi Yama was there, and also to Lil Tokyo of Nawlins when they opened on Bennington, of whom I believe also hired some Kamado's chefs?
They were early forerunners to the modern day BR sushi scene. But, of current, I would choose Koto, Yama, Waka, Ichiban, Tsunami, at full prices over what Geisha, based upon my lone visit, which in fairness, I didn't get to sample the full array of their signature sushi line.
I'll go back to Geisha soon, to try more of their stuff.
Anyone been to Taiko yet?

I check the sites daily for LFT, BR and the northshore. Have used all very successfully and yes I tip on the pre coupon total, not after the discount. Have had great success with them and one place I bought closed b4 the deadline to use it and bargain bee credited me the amount I paid no hassle. Been great for us, we eat out a lot at good places, not the yogurt and cookies type joints.

For me Ichiban is tired.
I dont care for Tsunami much at all.
Yama and Waka I would rate over Geisha but I have a delima when I eat sushi with my wife. She wont eat raw fish. So Im less likely to try a specialty roll that I wont be splitting. For a cooked roll I havent found a better place than Geisha. I generally dont care for many cooked rolls but enjoy the ones they serve. The filet roll, big easy roll and Marilyn MonRoll are very good cooked rolls.
If Im eating alone or with friends that eat raw sushi Im probably going to be in BR anyways at Yama or Waka.
I used to like Tokyo Cafe for a happy medium but they have gone to shite in the last year.

I tend to mostly use them for Gino's Mansur's, Ichiban, French Market Bistro, Arzi's, Louisiana Lagniappe, etc..
But, will take a chance on some places that seemingly you never hear raves about(for a reason)..if $18, $20, $25 gets me $50.

Derek Chang at Koto, if eating only from the signature roll line of sushi, is my fav over Yama and Waka.
The only thing I've ever found unique or quasi-good at Tokyo Cafe, is the Cowboy Roll. Though they give nice portions, the food lacks 'it factor', the teriyaki/teppan bar sucks too.

2 years ago TC was putting out some good rolls and I could get Toro there easily. This past year or so everything just became flavorless.

I have used two at Latil's Landing, one for Cupcakes n Cream, and one for a massage at a place I was already familiar with.
Needless to say, LL did not disappoint. Cupcakes 'n Cream = not so good. I had no problem with using the certificates, including issues with wait staff.

I have used them several times, its a pretty good deal, have had not been disappointed in anything. We generally spend over the coupon load and tip as if there were no discount.
I don't see this as desperation, I see restaurants that are buying exposure, good idea.

I buy things a lot from them. I wait until they have a good restaurant or something good that I want to try.
Like today 225 has Monjuni's. They aren't bad deals and I don't think it's restaurants that are struggling either...I really don't think Louisiana Lagniappe is struggling.

Bargain Bee hasn't been very good as of late, but that's to be expected. Most of them put out better deals in the summer and early fall when business is slower everywhere. I'd look to see the same trend this year. Come late spring and summer I would expect to see some better deals.
I would also expect to see them start putting more strict restrictions on them as well.
Such as valid only Mon-Thurs like Gino's and Tsunami did. I'm thinking they will start to cap the number of certs sold. I think Ichiban sold almost 2k. I bought 3
There are a few other "bargain" sites that occasionally put out some good restaurants.

You might not be that stupid... but some people are. Especially when its more like $100 left over.
