If you've been to the brewery in the past week, you've seen that we have some construction going on. We've started the initial stages of an expansion for an experimental beer program.

Once complete, this area will be isolated from the rest of our production equipment and allow for a variety of style experimentation, including sour and brettanomyces brewing and blending. We have several projects underway and hope to have our first release packaged later this year. Please pardon the dust.

Overhead piping and trenching are underway, with more developments soon. We'll share more details in the coming weeks, but know that we will be adding a few tanks and a 30 bbl foeder into a new cellar within this area.

Next week we are off to Allagash Brewing in Portland, ME. Brewmaster Jason Perkins has graciously set aside some time to walk us through their world-class operation to share best practices and provide helpful insight as we kick off our program. We couldn’t be more excited to learn from one the best in the world.

Nice. Great raft guys really know what they are doing. Their head brewer was mentioned on the session not to long ago, helping another brewery build their brewhouse

Just saw the Instagram post. That is beyond awesome. Glad to finally get real beer here in BR now. I'm not a huge sour or Brett drinker but it's exciting to see a local brewery expanding and having success. Congrats.

I haven't been able to try any Great Raft beers yet, but they seem to be viewed favorably on this board. I did listen to a podcast the other day (Beerists, I think is the name) that reviewed a couple of their beers and thought very highly of them.

What is the availability like in South Louisiana (Acadiana and BR specifically)?

Just rolled out in the BR market last week. Acadiana is TBA

Got an episode number for that pod cast?

It might have been the Chuckanut Brewery one, 7-13-15. It wasn't a long discussion, just mentioned the guys name from craft and that he helped put together somebody's equipment.

It is pretty awesome how quickly GR has been able to expand. For a small brewery in freaking Shreveport to have 2 expansions and grow to all major markets (except SW LA) in less than 2 years it amazing.

Andrew and Lindsay deserve all the success they are having.

Episode 177. It was all Louisiana beers. Mecha from NOLA, Peche IPA from Bayou Teche, the two Great Raft, and a sour from NOLA were the 5 beers reviewed.

The next episode was all about 2nd Shift, I'll have to listen to that one, I like their stuff.

This kinda scares me,

In most beer styles Brettanomyces is viewed as a contaminant and the characteristics it imparts are considered unwelcome "off-flavours."

Yeah, the Chuckanut people said he helped someone get started in NZ.

As long as they keep it completely separate from their regular lines/equiptment, they should be good to go.

That is why there is a separate brew house and fermenter. Keep all the brett and other nasties away from the main production brewery.
