Gov’T Taco more than lives up to its name.

They take your money and screw you in the process.

I had never been but heard mixed reviews. Gave it a try and won’t be back.

Tiny tacos that were bland (got the clucks and balances, socalism, and phillibuster), and chips and queso. Queso was very good as was pineapple salsa my wife got, but the chips were broken and stale.

Street corn was bomb though. If I have to go again I’ll just get three ears of that.

People working there looked tired and miserable. Also their ordering system (one person taking the order off a menu full of puns) was like being at the DMV.

Do not recommend. Jay Ducote needs to do better

I want to add that adding these chips and queso/salsa was $3 per meal. And tacos run about $4-$5 each and are about two bite tacos.

It adds up.

Fox Mexican food and tacos, I’d go to local hole in the wall where all the workers there are Hispanic. The one I go to is near Burbank and gardere. Very authentic and reasonably priced.

Gov’t Taco’s menu sounds good. Everything sounds interesting and tasty, but damn when I bit into Clucks and Balances I had to take a Covid test because I thought I lost my sense of taste.

I haven't been to Gov't Taco, but I don't equate the trendy "unique" taco places to what you're describing. Two totally different concepts IMO, and I think there's room for both to exist.

Zombie - Try Rock Paper Taco on Perkins if you like that style of taco that isn't just standard Mexican style.

I couldn't fathom going to a business named after the worst organization's on the planet and expecting it to be good.

The OG clucks n balances was so damn good. Shame.

I used to knight for Govt Taco on this board but they have gone downhill badly. Whatever tortilla they’ve changed to is an absolute joke.

I got flour and wife got corn. Both tasted store bought and cheap.

I was underwhelmed. Tiny arse tacos. Tasted ok, but tiny and overpriced.

This is no shot at Jay, I respect what he’s accomplished, but this is his very first and only restaurant (including his food court beginning). He began writing a blog and became Baton Rouge’s authority on food, eventually competing on reality shows and opening a taco stand. His experience in the restaurant industry was extremely low.

The man hustled and worked and built up his brand and I respect that. I would love to see him succeed in the restaurant industry but it has yet to be seen.

I kind of felt that way until I saw he fights with people on Yelp when they give him honest feedback. That’s embarrassing.

Well that doesn’t make sense. I didn’t expect the government to be working at the taco place

We used to go there a good bit and enjoyed it. Quality of the product is not what it used to be, and the price is too high for what you get. Rock Paper Taco is a much better product and they have combos where you get to pick 2 or 3 tacos for a set price.

That's some sad looking street corn. You should try La Morenita, you won't be dissapointed.

Look. I dumped on them and they deserve it, but the street corn was very good and I’ll give them props.

The menu description makes it sound awesome. It was flavorless. Sad.

Just went on Yelp and checked out JD’s responses and holy shite, what an arrogant a-hole. I’m not totally familiar with him, why is he semi famous? I went once ab a year ago and was once of the worst, most over priced meals I’ve ever had. I was never planning on going back but now I will encourage others to avoid it as well.

This was probably my favorite review

When you have your local D list Guy Fieri make a taco place this is what you get. Trash tacos prepared poorly with random bad combinations of toppings.
