Well, Ruth's is local for us

Yes, I'm making a joke before someone takes this too seriously.

Ruth's Chris is awesome, zero fricks given that its a "chain".

Try the one in the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi if you ever get a chance. That is particularly good.

I consider it local to Louisiana. I'm not sure what a "cool local place" means exactly. I can eat at RC for a good steak night or some other place another time. I don't require that anywhere be "cool". I like good food, though.

This point has been made repeatedly, but don't any of you go to restaurants for the experience?

IMO, you're not getting an "experience" at Ruth's Chris you can't get at other restaurants.

I think it's great if you go and you think it's a "unique" experience that you find hard to get elsewhere, but it isn't for me.

This thread has me wanting a good steak now...

Not sure I agree with that. Ruth's has always gone above and beyond to take care of me as a customer. It's one of very few restaurants where I've never had a single issue and more times than not have reason to sing their praises.

I can get the steakhouse experience at many places, but the consistency I've experienced at Ruth's is nice.

I know they are not in vogue here but I am old school and enjoy Charlies and Crescent City in rotation too.

Well yeah...Not everybody gets a free meal and a bottle of wine when they sit next to some over-imbibed folks

And yeah...Flemings right across the street always has pretty outstanding service as well. It's not really that unique to get good service at a high end steakhouse.

NOLA just has too many good steak houses to go to Ruth's. Unless im absolutely stuck in Metairie there is no way im going there and passing on the other places at the same price point. And if im planning a nice night, i surely am not going to Metairie. I can understand having a gift card like the OP, however.

Metairie is the greatest place on earth besides the city that resides directly west of it.

I very rarely go to a steak restaurant in New Orleans. Last time I went to one, it was La Boca which isn't a standard steak house and that was several years ago.

I usually go to the BR RC when I go, but I've been to RC in other states and in Canada on business trips when other folks want to go to a steak restaurant. Every one of them has been consistent, to my surprise.

One of my fav RC's is the one across the Potomac in VA that has a tremendous view of the mall monuments and capitol and yes, consistent is one of the benchmarks I have experienced at RC as well when entertaining out of town.

Yep, that's a good one. Spent a couple hours at the bar there before a flight home last time I was in DC. Great meal and a great view.

I hit up the midtown Manhattan RC for their happy hour quite a bit. While I generally wouldn't choose it for dinner because there are other steak houses here that I prefer, their happy hour is great (and their sliders are legit).

Good point.

My "cool local place" was in response to a very specific set of parameters.

The "cool local place" for me (and in the context in which I responded) would be somewhere with a wide selection of craft beers on tap, diverse food, interesting appetizers, possibly outdoor seating, and an atmosphere that doesn't come from a board room.

Nor does Mortons, Dantanna's or the Palm. Lest anyone think I am picking on RC.
