That city just blows me away on every level. There is just something that sets it apart. Its why we chose to get married there. Willie's was my last meal as a bachelor. Squid cooked in its own ink, filet sous video, and a bottle of bourdeaux. I went out in a blaze of glory.

The cafe constant cookbook is great too. Can be ordered online.

I guess I've eaten Luke around 7 or 8 times. Don't remember the service being much of a problem. I've eaten at the bar once.

But nininik's experience sounds pretty bad. However, I'll bet money the Besh people would straighten that crap out or they'd put a new GM in there if they were made aware of the problem. I wouldn't let it slide if I were you.

One more note . . . it's not that unusual for wine to be served in bar glass, depending upon the style of restaurant and wine.

I don't see why anyone would wait over fifteen minutes for someone to take their order. That's just plain stupid. I also know that people really exaggerate how long they waited for something in a restaurant. I'd pretty much guarantee that fifteen minutes was actually five minutes or less.

If this isn't sarcasm, you're an idiot. Since when is it the customer's responsibility to get a server's attention?

Having been a bartender for a number of years, I find crappy service from a barkeep to be inexcuseable. I've worked St Pat's at an Irish Pub with the bar 3 deep, and I don't think anybody waited 15 minutes to put in a drink order.

I've seen my share of lazy bartender's who get to you 'when they feel like it." Always pisses me off.

And the argument that rude/poor service is their 'thing' is a load of shite. A server makes 95% of their money from tips, which are governed by the quality of their service.

And to the poster above me, how do you 'guarantee' how long something took when you weren't there?

I agree with what other's have posted though. If I go somewhere a few times and the service is complete shite, I won't go back. There are too many better options. If you've been at least 7 times and the service is always crap, why would you go back 3 more times?

Bayou blitz just nailed it. Can you even imagine a manager training their service staff to be lazy because "that's our thing"?

For the record, nobody in the thread said anything about excusing "laziness" in a waitstaff. I simply pointed out where Luke is a style of restaurant where a certain brusque efficiency (as opposed to a more in your face, overly personal style) is to be expected in the service. What I was talking about is actually the opposite of laziness.

It's amazing how quickly things can be misconstrued here.

I guess I can't guarantee it but I know people lie about how long they wait in a restaurant. If you say you waited over 15 minutes for someone to take your order you are either lying or your an idiot.

Have you ever spoken to manager, sent a letter to Besh's group, etc.?

I was with my boyfriend and he was paying the check. He apparently felt o.k. leaving a small tip...though not near what his usual would be. If it were me, I wouldn't have left anything.

Because it was late, we were really hungry and we didn't have a vehicle, so the choices were pretty limited. We rode the ferry over to go to Wednesday's on the Square. I didn't know that's where we were going...my boyfriend was taking me. He didn't realize it was over early. So it was over by the time we got down there. So we were VERY hungry and had no transportation. So it was the quickiest idea I could come up with. Although we waited quite a while to get our order taken, even at 15 minutes, it was still quicker than having to find another place to go to and either cab it there or walk.

As explained previously, I would just deal with it in order to enjoy the great happy hour drink and oyster special.

On two occasions I spoke to the manager on duty who was very apologetic and comped something...but long term, it obviously didn't make a difference as I have still had issue, as have many others.

I suggest going to a higher up or emailing the address on the site. I think you will get a response based on the oyster grit/dirty area business as well as the wait.

I don't see the wine glass deal as an issue. It's a French thing.

I would be interested to know what kind of response you get. I was just thinking that if the manager on duty is allowing those things to happen, then alerting that person is probably spitting into the wind.

i see that now...and she can only go by her experiences. She's the first person i've heard complain on the oysters, but i've had plenty of people say the other food there is bland and would never recommend it. I've only ever been for oysters.

I must have missed that complaint. She said they ordered burgers and the bar was dirty from previous customers. Rather than cleaning the eating area, they were given towels to eat on which she said were full of oyster juice and grit. I think she said she loves the oyster special there.

My bad. This is what I saw:

She wasn't complaining about gritty oysters.

As I said earlier, I like the place.
