Alton brown's is my favorite

2 ounces tequila, 100% agave
2 limes squeezed
1/2 orange squeezed
2 Tablespoon agave nectar
2 limes to muddle
Salt for rim
Ice to serve over

Squeeze the 2 limes and 1/2 orange, add agave nectar and the remaining 2 limes. Muddle thoroughly. Mix with the tequila, strain, and serve over ice.

i've posted this before. great for something different

habanero margarita

1.5 oz silver tequila
1.0 oz triple sec
0.5 oz lime juice
0.5 oz pineapple
1 tsp habanero infused tequila (which is made by cutting 10 habaneros in half and putting them in a container filled with a fifth of silver tequila for 24 hours. that stuff is potent and you don't want to put more than a tsp in there. you can store it forever)

shake then pour over ice

Step 1, drive to my favorite cheap Mexican restaurant.
Step 2, order the $1.99 Happy Hour Margarita. Repeat as necessary.

I'm not sure what they use, but they're pretty good. And I've noticed that on the second one, it is a good bit stronger. My wife gets them frozen and I get them on the rocks.

Cheapest of the cheap tequila you can find, freshest of the fresh limes you can find. Whatever triple sec you have...

2-2-1 ratio.

Shake with ice, don't drive.

4 tbps tequila
2 limes, squeezed
2 tbps agave nectar
2 tbps water

Shake

Pour over ice

I'm not saying it's the best margarita you've ever had, but it's easy and pretty solid.

The two keys are really just to use Orange Liquor instead of triple sec and use lime juice instead of store bought mix. If you are making them frozen, the store bought pre-made limeade mixes are great.

There's quite a few good orange liquors in the $20-30 range for a fifth I've found no reason to buy the high end Gran Marnier types for a Marg.

Girlfriend got into this this weekend...we're big tequila drinkers:

2 parts fresh squeezed grapefruit juice

1 part fresh squeezed lime juice

A few drops of stevia (for the ladies) or simple syrup (for the men)

A dash of sea salt

A couple slices of fresh jalapeno

A healthy pour of good tequila - our favorite is Cimarron reposado. It's great tequila, and an amazing value if you can find it.

Muddle the jalapenos to infuse some flavor and heat

Enjoy.

Gross.

Tequila is one booze where it's worth your while to spend a little bit more. Even if you're mixing it, the bar should be set no lower than 100% agave.

Ultimate Margarita

Recipe courtesy of Tyler Florence
Show: Tyler's Ultimate
Episode: Fajitas

Ultimate Margarita
Total:5 minActive: 5 min
Yield: 4 servings
Level: Easy
Ingredients

1 lime, halved
Coarse salt
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice, from about 4 limes
1 tablespoon sugar (I sub agave nector)
1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 cup gold tequila
Ice
1/2 can good quality lager-style beer
Lime wheels, for garnish
ADD CHECKED ITEMS TO GROCERY LIST
Directions

To salt the margarita glasses, rub the outside rims of 4 big glasses with a cut lime and press them lightly into a plate of kosher salt, to coat.

Combine the lime juice, sugar, orange liqueur, Triple Sec, tequila, and a big handful of ice in a cocktail shaker (or blender). Shake the margarita really well, for a good 20 seconds, add a splash of beer and strain into the salt rimmed glasses filled with ice

Fresh squeezed OJ and lime juice, a splash of simple syrup, Gran Marnier, and your favorite tequila. Get the margarita salt from the store, don't use pure salt as it's too salty.

I am more of a purist and like a dryer, less sweet margarita. Orange flavored cognac in margaritas adds a taste I don't like. If I was doing that I think I would keep the OJ and use reposado tequila and drop the GM.

We got away from the cointreau an liqueurs a long time ago too. Keep it simple with fresh squeezed juices, some salt, and good tequila. It's great.

I have a long held theory that people who don't like tequila have never had good tequila.
