that's surprising considering how up and coming Nashville is. good luck to y'all I know there's probably demand in the marketplace for a mom & pop coffee shop. and right now is the time to cash in on the local small business movement before every city is over saturated.

we're in a unique area..there are a TON of local coffee shops everywhere but where i live (bellevue) so i think its ripe to support at least one..judging by the ridiculous traffic driving home every day, there should be enough people to help support it.

thanks! i might hit you up. i'm in IT so i know a bit about WIFI & stuff..but never from the standpoint of having to do it all on my own for something like a business. i've seen another local shop with a cheesy router that they reboot 2 or 3 times every time i'm in the place and i dont want to be THAT shop.

really? do they have to be hot? with morning rush crowds, it would be nice to have these ready to go and not going nuts frying each order up hot.

Have you considered offering the big thermos things that people can take to the office with them, I think they will hold a couple pots of coffee. Not sure what they are called or if they are popular in your area

i think starbucks calls those 'travellers'. hadn't really thought about it. we have some great ideas on our cups (black cups with a silver hand stamp as our logo..each cup will get 'stamped' when you check out..maybe even have swomething that has the date or something so we change the logo slightly each day of the week)

we are trying hard to NOT compete with the starbucks a block away. dont care about going after the people who want the same drink and 5 different pastry choices every day.

we want to sell the atmosphere and better quality brew along with better food.

if the coffee doesn't taste better then no one cares about the rest of it.

I would experiment, as i only had them fresh

It would be cool to have something you can just heat up maybe.

if you are familiar and want to play dd-wrt is apparenty pretty badass for low budget routing.

I work with folks that are good with all that too, but as far as doing it im probably like you.

CSB time. I'm in Davis Cookware down on 21st a few months ago. I'm in the back section and I can hear one of the brothers quietly telling someone about an underground coffee shop somewhere in Nashville. It's like a speakeasy with a special knock kind of place. After the customer left I asked the brother what he was talking about and he denied saying anything about a secret coffee shop.

not talking about patterson house huh?

i cant see that making it..coffee shops make all their profit on those fancy espresso coffee drinks the housewives love.

No. I don't whether I'm crazy and was just hearing things or I actually heard what I heard, but it's a secret coffee place that basically has a membership fee and is invite only. It's the fight club of espresso drinkers from the way the guy was talking. None of this has any relevance to your ideas you are looking for. I just thought it was a cool story to tell.

I'm been to coffee shops every day for the past 10 years. And I mean EVERY DAY. I'm a Starbucks guy but I've been to some places that failed.

Failures:

Benton, La. ...reason: Coffee tasted like crap. Did not use Arabica Beans exclusively.

Bossier City, E. Texas Street... reason: Location, you couldn't find it unless you knew it was there.

Recommendations:

Drive Thru is hot. Women don't like to come into a store. They like to drive thru. At my Starbucks the traffic is 90 percent drive thru. I don't do it. I come inside because it is MUCH faster than waiting at drive thru.

Newspapers. Do what hotels do. Offer free local newspapers for the customers who come inside. You can work out a deal with your local paper because they mark it up as circulation even if it's not being paid for. It helps with their ad prices.

Morning. People want coffee early. Open early. Close early to save on costs.
