It's the best choice, that whole area is populated with restaurants that are at best decent chain restaurant quality. Most can be bested with a frozen Stouffers meal.

It really is a hellscape of chain food.

It's remarkable, in this day and age, there's not even a small niche there that someone has felt the need to fill otherwise, but alas, there really isn't apparently.

It's weirder because pretty much every little town on the other side of the Great Smokies in North Carolina will have at least one or two interesting places to eat, some with many more.

There are plenty of good restaurants in Gatlinburg... they just aren't on the main strip.

It's crazy with all the money there we just end up with more chain shite, NC does really have it figured out. Hell even in a lot of the small towns in North Georgia, they are bringing in interesting and great restaurants. Then you got freakin places like Highlands that have several exceptional ones.

Sure, I will say there is good places, but there just isn't anything that take that next step up to be great. It isn't a foodie town, it's a tourist chain trap town. Some of those places are good.

Just came back from Dollywood. Best was a Indian place called Tulsi. Tandoori chicken was outstanding. Went to the sky Bridge in Gatlinberg and ate lunch at a German deli in a pseudo bavarin village. It was on the main drag. Ate at the Goat food was good, service was really good. That whole area is not a food destination.
Did enjoy Paula Deens Lumber Jack Fued show. What's up with all the pancake places

I'm trying to remember this place we went to that had probably the best chili I ever tasted. It was a year before the fire, so I don't know if this place still exists. I just tried to find the name, but couldn't. It may still be there but my memory is fuzzy. From what I remember it was a the bottom of the strip. The building was kind of like Jax brewery in NOLA in that you walked in and there was an atrium and you had to take an elevator/stairs to the second floor. It was a small counter order hamburger place, but the guy had all these trophies and plaques on the wall. He apparently was the Tennessee State Chili champ at one time. I thought it was weird that the chili wasn't the main thing on the menu and don't think it had chili in the name. Anyway it was awesome. It only had a couple of tables that kind of overlooked the atrium. If you find it, it's a good quick lunch with a chili that will stick in your mind for a long time.

My favorite restaurants up there (Pancake Pantry & Crockett's Breakfast Camp) are both on the main strip They also had a sorta hidden place on the strip that serves great Reubens

I also like the Applewood Farmhouse/Grill, Best Italian, & Holston's Kitchen

I was shocked, but the fried chicken at the Hatfield & McCoys show was some of the best I have had.

Theres a couple Japanese Places, Nagano and Little Tokyo, that was pretty good.

We had a good meal at JT Hannah's

I have some close friends that moved there from Gretna. I'll see if I can get somw recs from them other than those places.

We were there last week and actually did hit the Shoneys, it was glorious.

Did they have the breakfast bar? I think I might drive up there just for that. GOD I miss Shoney's breakfast bar: all the scrambled "eggs" with "cheese" sauce you could eat; all the biscuits and gravy you could eat; all the grits, bacon, sausage, pancakes...sticky buns...

I have the sad now.

I don't think the majority of people that go to the Gatlinburg area are anything close to being foodies. Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge has been a pretty major tourist destination for decades now, while the NC side outside of Cherokee really hasn't, or hasn't to the level Gatlinburg has been. I'd imagine there are some good, unique places off the beaten path in Gatlinburg, but certainly not on the main strip.

It's been close to 20 years since I've been to Gatlinburg, and the lasting impression I have of every meal I've eaten there is they were all grossly overpriced for the quality.

Cherokee appeals more to golfers, gamblers, people who like to fish, and eaters. There are several excellent restaurants now and both Gordon Ramsay and Guy Fieri have partnered with the EBCI to open restaurants in the coming years there.

Local Goat is the Goat. Not sure if it’s close to you. I think it’s in Pigeon Forge. It was so good we went twice on our trip. Good beer menu too.

Watched the SEC title game there in 2019. Food was excellent.

Agreed. My wifes family loves gatlinburg. We rarely eat out though and when we do its more than likely the brewery for the beer and trivia.

It has been about 5 years but we enjoyed eating at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant in Sevierville.
Homestyle cooking and I love the Hot Apple Fritters with Apple Butter.
Most may compare it to Cracker Barrel.
