Frozen Custard (trend de jour ala frozen yogurt)

I’ve noticed several frozen custard places opening up around here. Seems like the new trend in the frozen dessert space, much like frozen yogurt was a few years back (and was back in the 80’s as well). Andy’s, Culver’s, Freddy’s, etc. And Shake Shack as well. All except Andy’s seem to offer grill top burgers in addition to the custard.

Think it has been big in the Midwest for a while.
Had Cade's in Gonzales for the last decade or so.
Freddy's is pretty damn good burger and such. Kind of reminds me of Fast Track back in the day.

The griddled burgers/soft serve combo has been around for quite some time. Maybe it got pushed to the background with the peak of the mega fast food chains to an extent, but it’s always been around. Happy to see them rise again at the expense of the McD’s, BK’s...etc

To me, the old custard place that closed many years ago on the west bank that was started by Chef Warren LaRuth was the GOAT! Long live Chelsea’s frozen custard.
I would love to buy the recipes if anyone knows where and who I can buy them from.

I had Andy’s frozen custard for the first time a few summers ago in Branson. It’s smoother and creamier than DQ soft serve

1989 more like if. I’ve been eating frozen custard for 20 years. Bigger in Midwest and NE for sure. OP just doesn’t get out much or is some doofus kid.

I used to destroy concretes at Bop's when I was still stuck in MS.
Many Olympic games have passed since I was stuck in MS. Custard ain't a new thing.

The high schoolers at Andy’s let me bring a slice of birthday cake and they whipped it up with vanilla custard to make a custom concrete. They have seasonal concretes where they do the same with pumpkin pie, lemon meringue pie, and key lime pie. Nice family hangout in the warm weather.
