Field Company Cast Iron

These are new and lightweight. I don't have one but have been seeing them advertised for a bit now. One of the FD ballers should take one for the team and try it out.

I have one... it's pretty awesome. It's still not light, but it is lighter than regular cast iron.

Why would I want this over my current traditional cast iron? What are the benefits?

An angle grinder and a couple sanding discs works wonders on a $30 Lodge.

It’s thinner/lighter and the cooking surface is machined smooth. Basically, it’s supposed to be like the old Wagner and Griswold skillets. If you use cast iron frequently, you will appreciate it.

Someone posted a review awhile back on one, maybe that was Boo.

I don't mind spending $$ on kitchen items but I can't wrap my brains around justification of $135 for a cast iron frying pan.

Someone else has one on here... I saw it first on here and then got a promo code through Anova where they had a few of them for their customers, so I bought one through them. It was $100ish, but I have the No. 8, not the No. 10.

It's incredibly smooth, and lighter than my other cast iron. It feels like it takes and holds a seasoning better than my regular Lodge pieces as well. Their claims about non-stick are pretty legit, although obviously some things still stick especially when cooking on higher heat, it cleans extremely easily.

Whether or not it's worth the extra $$ is hard to say, but it's definitely a superior product.

ETA: I "store" mine on my stovetop because I use it almost every day, so that makes it worth a little more to me than something I would only use every now and then.

That is nice. If I used it everyday I could see justifying the price.

Send me one and I'll put together a full review comparing it side by side to my Field skillet and a Lodge.

I have one that I use almost daily. I love it. Waited almost a year to get it, but worth the wait. Easy to season and cook great.

I'd rather heavier with cast iron.

That would be a plus, but I have much older stuff that is like glass on the surface. No way I'd pay that much for a lighter piece of cast iron just for smoothness.

I was looking into getting one as well.

Their “catch” is that they try to mimic the old way of manufacturing cast iron and not with the newer mass production processes that lodge and other more mainstream brands use.

Also, the metallurgy is different. I have old cast iron skillets passed through 3 generations of my family and they are a lot lighter than the ones on shelves now in retail stores.
