Has anyone ever tried to grind a Lodge style smooth? I may give a small one a try so I don't ruin an expensive one.

I prefer the heaviness of my Lodge's for at least 50% of the cooking I do, it helps it maintain the heat for things like searing. So I'n not sure a lighter one is as good outside of just the weight?

I agree whole heartedly on this. That is a lot of coin for a cast iron skillet. Hate to think what a large Dutch oven or big 12 qt. gumbo pot would run. Second mortgage on the house would likely be needed to purchase.

I agree with this, I use my de buyer all the time and much cheaper...
