i'll bet they got a big kick out of the little white kid that couldn't decide if he was black or latino that day ... the ebonics one sentence followed by a little spanish the next must have added up to hours of entertainment ... and then, i am sure they marveled at how the little guy was an expert on every subject possible ..
At everyone else's house in the neighborhood 12:00 meant lunch - at Fro's it meant noon.

Living in Gentilly, it was the weekly malt I got when Dairy Dan passed by on Wednesday evening. After moving to BR, it was Hoopers on Scenic Highway.

Mom's Fried Chicken on Sunday for lunch after church. A honey bun and chocolate milk from any bait shop on the way to Lake Verrett or False River with my Dad.. A thick homeade chocolate shake in the blender as a late night snack on the weekend.

Red beans and rice. But not exactly for a good reason. I grew up in a house where every Monday was red beans and rice day. I grew to hate this meal and I still will not eat it 27 years later.

My dad was a milk man for a few years and during the summer he would stop by the house and throw milk out the back of his truck to all the kids by my house. Yes,chocolate milk too!

Butter and sugar on white bread, and a cup of mostly milk with a dash of coffee...all enjoyed with my grandma at her kitchen table.

Zatarains Root Beer Extract...

Root Beer Ice Pops

Get the flavor of an old-fashioned root beer ice pop without having to chase after the ice cream truck!

Makes 6 (1/2-cup) servings.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Freeze: 4 to 5 hours

Ingredients
1 cup sugar
3 cups hot water
1 tablespoon Zatarain's® Root Beer Extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions
1. Stir sugar and hot water in medium bowl until sugar is dissolved. Stir in Root Beer Extract, vanilla and lemon juice.

2. Pour 1/2 cup of mixture into each popsicle mold. Freeze about 2 hours or until partially frozen. Insert popsicle sticks into each mold. Freeze 2 to 3 hours longer or until frozen.

this is one of the things that I craved intensely when I was pregnant with my oldest... never totally got over it, I guess.

I'd have to drive to the piccadilly in the Westmorland shopping center to get mac/cheese for my wife when she was preg...it was her only craving.
