Has anyone here tried Haggis, Black Pudding, Pie and Mash, or Bangers and Mash? If so, how was it? Would you reccomend it or is it completly foul? What about the green gravy they pour over the pie and mash?

all I have heard is that if you go ask them to hold the pepper...all they use is white pepper.

Haggis is fantastic, as are bangers. Try them yourself!

I stuck to fish and chips and mashed peas when I was there. Had black pudding once and liked it.

Yes to all.
Haggis is ok, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it again.
Black Pudding is great, but I like blood sausages. Blutwurst and Chilean blood sausages are my favorite.
Pie and Mash is fricking awful...eel is one of my least favorite things on the planet. The gravy they pour over it is loaded with parsley, and does nothing to help the dish.
Bangers and Mash is fairly tame, just sausages on top of mashed potato with some sort of gravy.

I honestly didn't like any of the food in the UK. The week I was there, I actually lost a couple of pounds.... I need to go back!

Is the pie filled with eel? I thought it was just like a Natchitoches meat pie type item with mashed potatoes and a green gravy?

The pie is filled with lamb, but at pie shops the other big thing they serve is eel stew. Which is awful.
Sorry, thoughts were running together. I wasn't a fan of the parsley gravy...I think that's what ruined the pie for me.

I would only recommend fish & chips / steak and eggs / indian food / and that's it.

indian food
Unless you want to spend out the arse at a place like Gordon Ramsey, Indian food is by far the best food available at a reasonable price.

Don't eat the traditional English breakfast that is served to tourists at most places if you want to be worth anything the rest of the day.
Eggs, beans, ham, sausage, mushroom, a tomato cut in half and bread.

Bring some Tony C's with you. Little or no seasoning and half the time the salt and pepper shakers on the tables were empty. I loved the fish and chips but would have been so much better with Tony's.

That sounds like a day's worth of food.

All this food sounds like it sucks except for the fish and chips.

There is good food to be had throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland. Lamb, game, ethnic foods in the larger cities-London, seafood...though it's kind of a food nerd's culture in terms of food.
Lots of shitty cuts of meat that are cooked very well, strange creatures from the sea...it's not just all chip shops and ale houses.

It pretty much fills you up for the whole day. Small hotel we stayed at had a really great English breakfast - we tried it one day, it was great food, but couldn't eat anything else the rest of the day.

I guess if I go I'm going to McDonalds. Beans in the morning sounds messed up to me.
