Fleur De Lis Pizza set to reopen?

It appears that there may be a buyer for Fleur De Lis:
It seems like the realistic price of $1.1MM secured the deal for a buyer. They are apparently also going to renovate the building.

The property at 5655 Government St., which includes an 1,800-square-foot building and the 1.13-acre lot it sits on, is under contract with a buyer, said Beau Box of Beau Box Commercial Real Estate.
"The plan is to bring it back as a pizza restaurant," said Box, who would not disclose the name of the potential buyer.
The restaurant, furnishings, name and recipes were originally put up for sale in March 2023 with an asking price of $4.5 million. Box took over the listing for the building in September and lowered the asking price to $1.1 million.

Anyone down voting this must enjoy cardboard dipped in canned tomato sauce.

I really hope they bring it back with the same vibe.

Average pizza and terrible service. For some nostalgia just makes it greater than it was.

I believe they just bought the building, not any intellectual property (ie the Fleur De Lis name)

Change that name to "Lilly Flower Pizza" just out of spite.

Nice, that will be good for the neighborhood. Hope they serve some wings!

In reading the article, while they want to keep just enough nostalgia to bring people in, it seems pretty clear that they won't be making anything resembling a FDL pizza. But, we'll see how it all shakes out. Glad something is going into that building, and very glad they are going to rehab it.

There's a way to make that style of pizza (it's basically a Chicago "bar style") and make it good.
I'd love to see someone make a go of that versus just selling some tired uninspired NY style type pizza.

It’s not Chicago bar style pizza. It’s a Roman pizza pie originating in Rome and now popular in central Italy. The recipes were brought back by a WWII vet who opened the restaurant. Roman pizza pie is rectangular. The dough is prepared fresh with the addition of olive oil which helps crisp the crust. They use heavy gauge steel rectangular pans greased with Crisco to give the crust extra crisp. As for cheese they used smoked Provolone instead of Mozzarella. That’s where the distinctive smell of the pizza and dinning room came from.
If the new owner doesn’t bring back the old recipes they will be out of business after the first year.

The old-school feel of the place and the fact that it was never updated was a huge part of the allure. Doing a remodel would destroy much of that

Interesting. It's what kept me away.

I have recently been talking about Chicago style pizza to my kids. What is the best option other than going to Chicago?

I pray that they dont change anything

Amen to that. They were in business for 76 years. They must have been doing something right to have loyal customers. Joe Biden’s Covid BS crushed them and they loosed heart

Kayjay, you sure seem to be well informed. Did you work there? Are you family to the owners? Were you the owner?
