I was pleasantly surprised to see Pelican House had a 9-10 happy hour last night. It was $3.50 draft pint. I, along with a number of others in our party, ordered Enjoy Bys.

The price of Enjoy By was not on the menu or on the rotating tap menu prices. Later in the night we find out happy hour pints are only for beers regularly priced under $10. Nowhere on the menu was that specified. At this point, we also find out that Enjoy By is priced at, you guessed it, $10. No advertisement on happy hour stipulations, no advertisement of the Enjoy By price, and the failure of multiple bartenders alerting us to any of this will lead to the loss in business from myself and a handful of others. I know a number already felt the same, but I can't see myself being back. The worst part was the bartender couldn't understand why we even were concerned with this strategy. Said something along the lines of "I don't know what the problem is but I guess I can get a manager"

Although the $3.50 pints is a good deal

That's pretty much par for the course for Pelican House.

That is a very good deal. How many beers do they have that are over 10 bucks a pint? As far as Imperial IPA's go, that's more expensive than Pliny the Younger.

We all know that some beers are more expensive to brew than others. Almost all of the places around here try to keep prices in the 4 - 6 dollar range. Sometimes they do that by offering a 6, 10, or 12 oz pour.

For example, a local place has Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti at $6 for a 10 oz. pour, and Blind Pig is $6 for a full pint.

This keeps people from getting sticker shock, but it also allows people to try more beers since many of the more expensive beers are high ABV.

One of my favorite places lists all of it's beers in 4 oz. increments. For example, 2 bucks for 4 oz, $3.50 for 8 oz., 5 bucks for 12 oz, and 6 bucks for a full pint.

Another place has 3 sizes for all of it's beers - 6 oz, 10 oz, and 16 oz.

This is great, because you can sample more beers, and there are some beers that it is just difficult to drink a whole pint, even though I would enjoy a 6 oz pour.

I'm not sure if the taprooms in LA are already doing these types of things, but if not, customers planting the bug in the ear of the bartenders and owners might make it happen.

You probably would have been happier paying $3.50 for a smaller pour of Enjoy By, rather than finding out later that your pint cost you 10 bucks.

I want to say it was $7 at Avenue for 16 oz. Could be mistaken because it was a few weeks ago.

Black ipa. Really balanced. It's not bad. I'm personally looking for a more roastiness in a black ipa, but that's not banging on abita. Definitely one of their better beers.

my thoughts exactly. i thought it was solid. kim had one at my house with me not too long ago.

Sounds fair.

I'll drink the majority of 4.20 at home though.

$7.99(at the most)/22oz

It can't be many, but I can't say I was paying attention because of not knowing the <$10 condition.

$10 for a 16oz pour is kind of steep. I wouldn't have ordered it had I known, because they had other stuff I really enjoy for $3.50

I agree. Sometimes I'd like to try a beer, but drinking a full pint or more of a 9% abv beer isn't a good idea when driving. The four different sizes is a great idea.

agreed but no way Louisiana would be able to handle this. Somehow a politician would find a way to get a cut

Wow. Very upfront sour. And tarty blast for a wheat ale. I'm usually not a fan of the style but this is good.

It's got a sourish taste for a wheat ale.

It's not a sour beer in style. It is a wheat ale but has a Souris bite. Officially a berlinerweisse
