FBD - Benthic release at Half Acre. Apple Brandy is wildly good.

I am a big Coffee Stout fan. One of my favorites is the "Java Stout" from Santa Fe Brewing. Comes in a brown can. It used to be on a lot of shelves in N.O. area. I can no longer find it. What gives?

Found 3, 4-packs and snatched them up. About to call an Uber so I can pop these open on the way home.

FBD is All Relation Job Money Lil’ IPA (pictured left) clocking in at 5.2% with — like all they’re first release IPA’s — Oats, Wheat, and Lactose. Hopped with Azacca, Citra, and Idaho 7.
It’s good. Nose is resinous/piney tropics. It’s got a bit of a bitter bite, but clean bitter, not hop burn or astringency. Palate is on the softer side and it tastes a lot like it smells: a bit piney/grassy, but a good bit fruity, as well. Went to the Sneak Peek last night and good God that place is gorgeous. You can tell that there was a good bit of SoPro money and experience behind opening this one up. Super low key atmosphere that feels elevated, but not really pretentious. Got space inside and out for quite a lot of people and the beer is outta sight from Day -2. The 90’s-arse Sheets 12% IPA was by far the best TIPA I’ve ever had — smooth, tropical, and not a bit cloying or boozy. Phenomenal. They had a Sour IPA with about 5 different hops, Lactose, Lime, Tahitian Vanilla, and Plum that was insanely good. And the Pina Colada Berliner was a less sweet, more crushable Holly Beach, which imo, made it better. A Mexican Lager and West Coast IPA called “NOBODI CAREZ” rounded out the remainder of the list less the best beer of them all: a 6.8% Hazeboi IPA with Oats, Wheat, and Lactose hopped with Nelson, Motueka, and Kohatu called “Bird Sauce” that was absolutely stellar. Smooth, but crushable. Tropical hops, but absolutely not bitter. I left incredibly impressed and jealous I am not opening a brewery this nice ASAP. It’s going to be a NOLA staple very quickly.
The beer on the right of the pic is my homebrew 6% NEEPER with Guava called “Dankey Kang.” It’s delicious. I’m extremely happy with it. Hopped with Rakau, Southern Passion, and Mosaic. No lactose. The nose is a fruit bomb of almost raspberry jam aroma. Palate is soft and smooth, guava/berry flavors but not too sweet. Been experimenting with adding more bittering additions after reading “The New IPA” book by Scott Janish where he talks about hops that are heated having their oils isomerized into other compounds that can help accentuate fruity flavors/aromas when used in conjunction with dry-hopping. I’m somewhat dubious, but 1 of my 2 first experiments testing it out is this and it worked, so idk. I don’t think anyone knows exactly what they’re doing with IPA’s beyond the ones where we use Citra, Galaxy, or Mosaic pretty exclusively. A lot more to learn!

Space Stuff is legit. Got a 2nd Anny can. Don’t think it will survive the weekend. FBD imminent.

FBD is a 18th St BA Bitches Bank. Reminds me of Big Bad Baptista.
