When I went to LSU, Der Wienerschnitzel
Now, Chilis

Anyone try Bldg5 yet? Was thinking of going there in a couple weeks, but haven't heard much on it rather than "it's pretty good" and no descriptors after that.
I've only been for lunch and with my children, so disclaimer I can't speak to their dinner, drinks, small plates, etc.
However I really enjoy their sandwiches - the slow rib and the porchetta. Very very good lunch.

It's pretty good
Really, though, it is very solid. They've scaled down the menu from when they first opened, and now mostly focus the most on protein and veggie spreads when it comes to entrees. It is very good, and helpful when you're going out but not trying to eat poorly.
Their small plates are all good - namely the meatballs and the crab cakes.
It is kinda hard to get into during peak hours, and they don't take reservations besides for their 1 indoor larger party table.

Bldg5:
Eaten there once but the Short Rib Smash sandwich was one of the best I've had in BR. Braised short rib, havarti, pickled mustard aioli, pickled red onions, rustic wholegrain

Went once, didn't hate it but I don't need to go again. Wife loves it. It's more earthy type food. I had a tuna salad but thought it was just okay (Parrains and Walk-Ons tuna salads are waaay better). Wife had a beet salad, and loved it. Also I thought the cocktails were just okay.

Depends on what we are in the mood for, but we 've got a few.
The Little Village--We've never had a bad meal there. Bread is phenomenal, their steaks I think are fricking fantastic (far better than Sullivans and Ruffinos in my opinion). Pretty good drink menu.
Stabb's--Great steaks, appetizers and drink menu
Roberto's--only went once but it was good
French Market Bistro--wasn't overly impressed on food, but it was good atmosphere with some great drinks and they will get you drunk!
Rouj Creole--Haven't had a bad meal there either, pretty good cocktails
Elsie's--Great for sandwiches, pot pies, and desserts
City Pork on Highland--I find it better than the others, the bar side has a good atmosphere. Good appetizzers and pretty darn good happy hour too
Superior Grill Highland--Food is okay, but they have probably the best bourbon selection of any restaurant in BR
For Brunch:
Olive or Twist--everything made from scratch, it's delicious, and they have the best cocktails in BR
Khalura St. Grill
Frank's--their breakfast food is great, lunch & dinner is just meh

This is the perfect description. It's a lot of lean proteins, misc. grilled vegetables, herb-based sauces, ancient grains, chickpea salad, etc.

Elsie's plate and pie - my number 1
Bergeron's city market - Tuesdays and Wednesday are my favorite days to grab lunch or pick up dinner on the way home.

There are a lot of good restaurants in BR and a lot of them have been mentioned in this thread. That said, Beausoleil has been and will be my favorite restaurant until I have a bad meal at the place. The food is consistently excellent and the service has always been good for us.

I've had a similar issue with Eliza the two times I've went. Maybe I ordered the wrong things.
It was good, but not as good as the reviews on here would have suggested. I'll continue to try though and certainly will get the rabbit ragu next time.
Same thing with me when I went. It was ok but not worth the hype it’s given
Much better meals can be had at:
Beausoleil
Solera
Proverbial Wine Bistro

I went last summer and should the food was pretty good, it was tough to enjoy because of all the flies. They need to figure out something with their outdoor seating.

What’s Gino’s like?
I don’t live in Baton Rouge.

Gino's is old school red sauce Italian. A lot of people go for anniversaries, etc.
I personally think the dining room to the left (I guess this is considered the general dining room) is not too nice. Needs a serious update and the lights dimmed. If you're going for something romantic, that room doesn't really have it.
However, a table in the bar when they have a piano player or a quartet playing is one of the best experiences in BR. The food itself is delicious IMO.
This seems to be a bit of a trend in BR. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned bar at Mansur's > main dining room, which I totally agree. And I think the same is the case at Stab's. On Sunday brunch especially.. when the sweet man who plays the piano/trumpet/sings is in there.

I've had some very good meals there, and some subpar ones. My last visit was lackluster so it'll likely be a while before I go back. Veal Sorrentina, arancine, Laurence Bread, Mama's salad w/ lump crab, & almond cream cake are all great.
